***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2019/20

Athlai

Not Terrible
Conway is something special.

He has to play in the T20 world cup. He qualifies in September and its October. The bloke may not be just one of New Zealand's best batsman right now, but the entire ****ing worlds.

Hes going to finish this 10 game T20 comp nearly 200 runs ahead of the next highest runscorer. It's insane.

he looks very good, and i hope certain ah, rankings, are correct but i think we need to play him for the a team to have a look before taking a big punt.

the t20 side in general needs to look outside the core though. phillips should be getting more games than he does.

Jeez this TV commentary team for ND-Canty is punishing. Larmer is an appalling commentator in any sport and this other weirdo with the melodramatic fake accent is completely off his head.

Larmer is really tough to listen to, in this and rugby league. Chris Harris does my head in every season as well, the guy can't shut up for a millisecond! "He's bowled down the leg side, batsman hits it, it could be caught, no it bounces first, fielder takes it and returns it to the keeper, they get one run" YES WE CAN SEE ALL THAT!!!

Anyway, went to the Basin for my first Super Smash game of the season today, what a flop from Wellington. They really blew their chance to seal that home final in the previous match vs Canterbury. Fingers crossed they still get it, would be great to head along to the big match next Sunday. $12 beers though, ouch.

Yeah tbh I sort of rushed to judgement on Larmer because I already despise him from his Warriors commentary. Not only does he just generally lack a good commentary voice and presence, but I have never know a lead commentator who is so consistently WRONG about what is happening in front of him. Actually him and Dale Husband are two Warriors lead commentators whose commentary is so bizarrely detached from what’s happening it’s almost like deliberate surrealism.

Don’t mind Husband, at least he gets some energy into it and pronounces the player’s names perfectly. But yes, both are prone to some weird calls at the best of times.

Chris Harris as soon as he comes on I mute. Gets on my nerve all the time and he can't just see beyond Caterbury is another problem.

Aces were always going to target Younghusband. Firebirds played with 5 bowlers and if one didn't go well it was going to be testing. Besides they didn't get enough on the board, they were at least 10-15 short I thought. Half way through they were sitting quite pretty, only 1 or two down and over 80+ runs. Conway obviously a good player but couple of times or three this season he hasn't gone on to score quickly after the first 6. Ideally you would have thought he accelerated. That said Firebirds without Jimmy may not put enough on the board if he got out. Enjoyed the short knock by Ravindra, he can hit big and plays better against better bowlers without slogging. The pull and the lofted shots vs Jamieson/McClenaghan were awesome. The umpire buggered it. Would like to see him bat maybe at no.6 or 7 and see how he goes for once.

Jimmy Neesham will be back for the semis or the finals I guess.

ND finally woke up and won couple of games in a row. Way too late though.

You'd think someone like Newton or Bennett deserve a place in the T20 squad vs India. If not both at least one should make the squad you'd think but I'm guessing that won't happen. It'll be disappointing to see them not make it despite consistent performances.

Oh as an aside, honestly how did Munro last this long with Black Caps? He just slogs  No doubt he will be persisted.

the plunket shield batting records of the current otago squad are grim. i didn't realise how bad the games played to batting averages comparison was.

here's hoping they improve soon (against teams i don't support ofc)
