Shows how bad we are that we have a team relying so much on a bloke who is nearly 34 and averages less than his age but is one of the few players we have who looks capable of batting more than a session.
A lot to like about Denly. Hopefully he can do enough to play for a couple more years at this level. Needs a test hundred.

This is getting back to the old Newlands test surface... slow and you will need your spinner 2nd innings. I'm happy with that. SA needed to get back to our original variation in pitches.

Need 450 first innings... hopefully pitch deteriorates enough to get a result.

Also, great to see Newlands sold out.

This is where I`m unconvinced of Pretorius, yes good stock bowler but with so little in the pitch offer no wicket taking ability. So I don't know why he is bowling with a ball only 25 overs old. Maharaj actually offers a wicket taking option and can still keep it tight.

As long as he keeps it tight and scores a few cameos he's doing his job though isn't he ?

I keep meaning to watch Sibley bat but each time I've gone to turn this on this series, he's just gotten out.

That will be the decider. There wasn't much grass on the pitch and whilst the temperatures aren't getting into the 30s I think they wind should dry this pitch out but the turn can be too slow sometimes.

We definitely don't want Newlands of last England tour but that was a rarity.

Nothing wrong with a stock 5th bowler whose main claim to fame is bowling it accurately and not going for many runs tbh. Especially given the nature of the rest of your pace attack.

Not at test match level when we have better quality youngsters. I am a fan of playing an all-rounder that can make it into a team on one of his skills alone.

Just to be clear if Pretorius was a better batsmen I would be fine with his selection. But he does not offer enough there.

Hmmm that package on Sibley was a little worrying. Should leave all those deliveries alone on length on bouncy pitches.

That is how I see it. If you had his bowling and Albie Morkel's batting I would take it.

I can usually grow to like a technique or find some redeeming qualities about a batsman, but I can't ever imagine liking D Sibley.

It is such hard work out there for him. I suppose he is showing progression even if it is slow. But I don't think we will all be surprised if he doesn't make it. It's not like he is that hard working type that scores in awkward areas and punishes you as a bowler if you slightly off it to his strengths. So with his limitations, it almost feels like he is going no where and you will get him sooner or later.
