Absolutely love watching Nortje bowl, absolute rocketship of a bowler. Far too good for the trust fund kid. If he can stay fit he could be well and truly in the top echelon of South African quicks.

Bold call I know, but he really looks that good

There's so much Patto there that I just expect injuries because Patto.

Does he field at first slip in domestic cricket? If he's more often at second or third slip then he wouldn't be used to the keeper diving across him. But if he's usually at first slip then I agree with you - even if it might be the case that De Kock goes for more than the keepers that Rassie's used to fielding alongside, it's still something that he needs to be prepared for.
I don't think so. Think he is more a 2nd/3rd slipper. Think Hamza or Faf should be 1st slip.

Hasn't the Cantebury pitches been rather testing ?
Been pretty difficult most places. Denly has had a pretty strange career, played for the ODI team years back but he was not one of those guys like Hildreth that people always talk about for selection, nobody was mentioning him 2 or 3 years ago and then when he did get picked it was partly because he could potentially bowl some spin in Sri Lanka.

Nah Denly averages less than 40 in CC.
Ah ok. I tried looking up his stats on the last 5 cc seasons but didn't know how to. I just seem to remember those 3 being steady middle order bats who always had a steady output each year

We don't get to see first class cricket so we don't really know.

Being a Cape Town boy I did notice when Prince got this young batting group together Hamza (2nd), J,Malan (3rd) and Bedingham (4th & gully) were in the slip cordon. But being a first slip is a bit different with thinner edges going quicker so you need guys able to pick it up early and then have good buckets (not sure Rassie has either ?).

69 catches in 114 matches isn't a great record. It's unlikely to be because he just keeps dropping them, but I suspect he's not always at first (and maybe not even always in slips...)

Yeah definite similarities. Know he has had back issues before, hence why it took him a while to really become a regular for the Warriors, but hasn't seemed to have that problem for a while

Ha ! The good clubby dibbly dobblers. Did he retire officially ?

I know he came to Cape Town last summer playing for Claremont Cricket Club. Ended up working with Gary Kirsten and Justin Kemp.

This is the first time I`ve seen Rassie in as a close fielder, outside maybe a 4th slip. I have seen Hamza, Faf and Markram consistently in slips and do a decent job. I think Malan is also often a close in fielder.

That is the beauty (or not beauty) of cricket. You can look good and you have a fairly decent technique that gives you a fair chance but it just takes one ball to make a mistake and it seems Denly's issue.

I just don't think he is very good, most of his scores had come with a fair bit of luck. Does not mean he has not done a valuable job at times, he would have been really useful a couple of years back when England were always 30/3 but the rest of the order was actually pretty good.
