I could make a case for Gavaskar since he is the greatest opener to have debuted post-WW 2. Kapil Dev is a great cricketer and the 1983 win changed the game but I wouldn’t call him the greatest Indian cricketer.
I have no idea what that means.

No , he isn't. He is the greatest Asian all rounder.
Both Tendulkar and Murali have equal probability of selected in an ATXI followed by Imran, Gavaskar and Akram. You can't be greatest Asian cricketer if you don't make most of the people's first choice AT XI .

That's just one way of defining greatness. Being an ATG bowler + a more than serviceable batsman + a brilliant captain makes him the easy choice for me.

Well, he was voted the "Indian cricketer of the 20th century" for good reasons by people who saw the game. And that is after Sachin had completed his best decade. Again, it is an opinion which many would subscribe to, not necessarily everyone.

I don't care about the Gavaskar > Sachin opinion, he wasn't a better batsman than Sachin, he didn't have the gears Sachin had, he sucked ass in the ODI format for the majority of his career and he wasn't quite loved as much by the people either. Kapil I could understand, Gavaskar I have no idea exactly what makes him better.

Put it this way.
There have been about 15 odd batsmen considered as Top Tier batsmen since World War 2 ended.
How many of them were openers? Gavaskar.
How many of them were middle order batsmen? Everyone else.

Black is used to refer to people of African descent, always has been, always will be.
Murali doesn’t make “most people’s” XI either.
Anyway my personal choice is Imran, very close between him and Tendulkar though.

It was done in 2002. By the way, I thought it was very close between him and Sachin at that time and can totally understand if someone wants to rate Sachin higher. It is just that people are different and can attribute importance to different set of parameters which are entirely subjective.

This is going from bad to worse and I think you should give it a rest. Asia does not mean black or white or brown, it is just the group of people belonging to the subcontinent covered by Indian Ocean, Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal on 3 sides. Nobody else was judging anyone by color and not even now except you. Not sure what is the agenda here..
