“Nothing to lose assault”? Really? Perera’s knock is often underrated because he isn’t a well known cricketer and he plays for a small country.Yeah but Perera felt like a nothing to lose assault for a long time. One of the reasons which makes me rate Lara's 153 higher than both Perera and Stokes knocks last year. But as far as pure batting exhibitions go, those knocks I mentioned were a class of its own.
I don’t think anybody would place Dravid, Waugh or Chanderpaul among the Top 15 batsmen ever.I have been extremely consistent with my opinion in this thread. I have already said earlier none of Kohli, Dravid, Waugh , Chanderpaul deserve top 15 position. And DOG's rating validate my opinion.
Steve Waugh doesn't belong to same class as Tendulkar and Lara . He belongs to Dravid, Border class.

An Asian team winning in SA for the first time is memorable than yet another Ashes win by England or WI winning against Aus IMO.
I would say it is somewhat similar to KOB’s knock against Eng. Maybe not as popular as Kapil’s 175 or Viv’s 189 but just as good.
Not out of place at all.I don’t think anybody would place Dravid, Waugh or Chanderpaul among the Top 15 batsmen ever.
I watched all three of those innings and Perera’s knock leading to a SL win was like video game level unexpected.
All three were great innings though. This is my order
1. Perera
2. Lara
3. Stokes
Not out of place at all.
Bradman
Sobers
Richards
Tendulkar
Lara
Hobbs
Hutton
Hammond
Chappell
Gavaskar
Ponting
Kallis
Sangakkara
Dravid
Waugh
If you leave out the careers not yet over, who outside this list was "by all accounts" a better batsman than Dravid or Waugh ?
Doesn’t that make it even more great? Like winning a match that was all but lost.Which is what I meant by "nothing to lose". For me, the Lara knock was comfortably better than both the others'.
Yeah the point is it is an opinion right ? People might give importance to longevity and rate Dravid and Waugh higher and they wouldn't be way off. Other than the top 10 batsmen who might beat these 2 hands down, others in discussion here are debatable.Ken Barrington. Sutcliffe. Greg Chappell. These three are ahead of Dravid/Waugh IMO.
ooh, Sri Lankan bowling side with Muralitharan on SL soil is hardly weak. More likely it is one of the most difficult attacks to face for a touring batsman. Don't forget that Vaas averaged sub 25 in SL as well. Great batsmen like Dravid and Kallis struggled against that attack.Having a good average in Asia despite a blip against a comparatively weaker side actually makes me think more of him than I did before this post tbh.
That is extremely grandiose for you make that decision on behalf of the forum.Sunilz, you have no credibility about anything after the chappell “analysis” the other day.
Dont forget one of their two best batsman was injured, and the other was fit but they decided not to pick him for some reason and won anyway.the achievement from that sri lankan side was insane. they were ****in woeful down under. absolute pack of spuds, running around with ****s like gunathilaka and thirimanne with a pace attack led by a hawke cup standard bowler and everyones favourite vegetable kumara and then they just casually rock up in sa and **** them up.
i don't think india, pakistan or nz have ever won series there with teams that would and have absolutely crushed that sri lankan outfit.
such a mental team. they have form for these stunts like that prasad bombing of the poms. sri lanka have some insanely talented batsmen who just don't adjust to foreign conditions all that often, but when they do...
Players like Kusal Perera is capable of such innings, because when he is in the zone not even Marshall will be spared. Issue is in he rarely gets in to the zone and when ever he gets in, gets out of it quickly as well. That was one are occasion he stayed in the zone for some time.Dont forget one of their two best batsman was injured, and the other was fit but they decided not to pick him for some reason and won anyway.

So what?? I specifically said the 90s. Overall yeah Sachin takes it over Waugh but in the 90s Waugh was right in the same league. Sachin had 1 series vs an atg where he did well (imo well = 50+). In the 90s Waugh had several: WI '95, Pakistan '94, Pakistan '95 (h) , RSA '97 (a), WI '99 etc. Some of you people act like it's some sort of an insult to even insinuate anyone being in Sachins league. Sorry but in the 90s Waugh was.Stop over rating Steve Waugh. The guy has total 4 centuries and averages 43 in Asia. He averages 16 in SL.
