Intriguing days play ahead. After how yesterday played out - England will be confident. Especially with the impossible is possible in Ben Stokes and one of the best batsman in the world to come in Joe Root. Try and stretch each partnership.

Not sure SA did much wrong yesterday bar Rassie dropping Burns on not much. Fine line needed between being patient and pro-active. Keshav will be needed as I don't think the cracks will be responsible for bowling England out (maybe 1/2/3 dismissals max) - short leg position will be important.

Rabada and Nortje were disappointing. The wicket isn’t playing up as much as expected but they gave Burns easy runs. Would be interesting to see Burns S/R against Philander, Maharaj and Pretorius.
South Africa will have a headache if Maharaj is targeted this morning. He bowled very well last night and was a threat throughout.

How good was that spider graph from Haysman ?

Illustrated the change in seam, speed, bounce, inconsistency and spin each day showing the pitch did relax yesterday for the fast bowling but spin came in. Liked that.

Bounce and carry all very theatrical but how is this going to get Denly out?
What are the bowlers meant to do? The English batsmen are batting well and leaving the 4th/5th stump line. If the ball was coming in off the seam in any way then there would be problems. The minute the bowlers go straighter the batsmen have clipped them off the legs.

Bowlers need to be patient and stick with it, hopefully can get the ball to reverse and then have the new ball later.

I`m just glad that Maharaj is there, think he will be key.

I dont like when a cricketer announces his retirement at the start of series, it can give slight edge to the other team that the player is going through the motions

Big Vern would be a handful if he was properly trying then.

But as a rule I know what you mean.

Get the spinner on and ask the other quick to bowl straight with a split field. Get to 80 overs ASAP.

I know he a professional Vern but i think he could have waited until the 3rd day of the 3rd test match if he wanted a send off by the fans
