Eskom to pull plug during press conference...
 the stage we can all just laugh about it because it has got so bad.

Maybe the reason they have these press conferences at OR Tambo.

Saw another article in the Citizen saying SA cricket needs all the help it can get on a more positive slant of Gary Kirsten being a mentor. Pity it is behind a paywall.

I know we talking J. Malan a lot. But I really feel that the next cab off the rank should be van Tonder, know he struggled initially but he has started off with a bang and on pure ability I think that he will be a better player long term. I really really want to see him in and around the camp sooner rather than later.

At least we got him for the SA setup in the short term... I wonder if that is maybe a better role for him anyway. He has not had a great deal of administrative experience as far as I know, which the director position will require? Let us see what he can do.
IPL comm is a small hiccup. I think this is see how things go and if he gets what he needs then everything will fall into place.

One of Graeme's best strengths was his ambitious planning and being able to compartmentalise different areas of what was required of him. That and natural leadership, he was on the stage when he spoke. That is why I love his comm work.

Let's hope things run smoothly.

The signing for three months might be the most practical way of working around the IPL commitments. Rather than be forced to take a leave of absence during the IPL this way he can sign a long-term contract once that's over (assuming he still wants the job at that point).

How much admin experience did strauss have when he took the english director job?

3 months isn't great but its different then nothing I suppose.

Concerns from an immediate cricket perspective for the test team.

17-18 : SA XI v ENGLAND
19-22 : FRANCHISE 4-DAY SERIES (Dolphins v Warriors, Lions v Titans, Cobras v Knights)
20-22 : SA A v ENGLAND

Elgar, Markram, Hamza, could definitely do with time in the middle. Even Faf, Bavuma, QdK it was interrupted and T20 cricket behind them.

Biggest concern is the bowlers lacking long spells and being ready mentally for what test cricket can bring compared to where the England fast bowlers are. And right now I would say Rabada, Ngidi, Philander are far from peak confidence wise. Even Nortje , things were flying last summer compared to the last few months for him.

Strauss was not trying to fix and redesign a domestic structure. While Eng had their problems, they where not on any of the level of CSA's problems, also importantly ECB have a huge fund of money to call on. What Strauss did was create and help implement a 4 year plan for the national team, targeting the WC. Fantastic job. But if that is all they want to use Smith for then they ignoring larger problems.

I am not trying to take anything away from Smith and his abilities, he may be perfect for the larger job. I only comment on his administrative experience, which will be important. Putting Smith into place as window dressing will only hurt if he is not capable of doing the job. I do think with people like Faul, Richardson, Bacher, Kirsten and all the others stepping up and helping it can be done as a group.

Amazing how much damage can be done in as little as two years, such a same old same old story in SA though... While the top of the pyramid is obviously corrupt, reading the article it does feel like the overall people in cricket that keep the sport running on the ground are still in there. It means that if you can fix the governance you have a chance of quickly getting back on the right path.

It also shows the hubris, this sudden dramatic shift suddenly happened because Moroe attacked the media. He was royally screwed after that one. We could all see the problems but going after the journalists was a red flag to a bull. And with articles like this now coming, will be surprised if the current board lasts long.

Nice little update.

“I’ve publicly stated a number of times that I would love to assist CSA in this difficult time, particularly in developing this new role of Director of Cricket,” Smith said in a statement yesterday.

“I’m still as passionate about South African cricket as I ever was and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the role. There is a lot of work to be done in the next few weeks and months, and my objective will always be to make a positive impact during my tenure.”

Also yesterday, CSA’s current interim chief executive Jacques Faul said the organisation still remained intent on taking a “long-term view” on Smith as its Director of Cricket. “We will see how it goes for now, but the idea is for him to sign for an extended period,” Faul said.

In the meanwhile the Proteas need to get their preparation up and running for the Tests against England. “Graeme obviously needs to come up with a team, and as a matter of courtesy, I will take those names to the Board,” said Faul.

“He has obviously been very busy putting those names together, but as part of a parallel process, while he was sorting out terms to be the Director, he was also talking regularly to Faf to get as much info as possible on what the players need ahead of that series. Obviously we are stressed for time.”

He said that he hoped to announce the coaching staff by next Tuesday for the latest provided all parties can agree to the terms of their various contracts.

Smith was also in the process of putting together an interim selection panel, that according to Faul would be responsible for picking the squad for the England series only.

How the team would prepare, would boil down to the coaches and most importantly Du Plessis. The Proteas captain is part of the Paarl Rocks team that will be involved in the final of the Mzansi Super League on Sunday. A round of Four-Day Franchise Series matches is scheduled to start next Thursday, but it is understood that the Proteas players may not necessarily participate in those despite many having had very little cricket in the last six weeks owing to having to play in a 20 tournament, in which many matches were washed out.

One idea is to have a training camp, which would allow the players and the new coaches to communicate directly allowing them to build bonds quicker.

CSA Sponsor Momentum has called for the resignation of the President and vice-president and or the board or it will review its contract come April 2020 #massive

Also good to see Madiseng resign last night with his Gauteng partner Moroe suspended.

Money talks. The board will be forced to resign. And in all likelihood other sponsors are making the same demands behind closed doors.

Boucher would always be Smith's first pick for the job given their long history, so probably not just a rumour.
Yeah true. Think Boucher has been on domestic scene for a while now so done the hard yards. Boucher quite old school. I would like to think he has an eye for talent. He always seemed that type. Thinking back to his selection and many of our best cricketers for him era that Peter Pollock as convenor of selectors had the eye for talent with Woolmer and co. They could have gone Palframan or Pothas easily before Boucher. Same with other players. I think that is what I want to see most but it is so tough because how to do you judge with the state of our domestic game.
