Think we’ll do the middle order now, should be the most straightforward of the remaining positions.
Hashim Amla | AB de Villiers | Virat Kohli | Cheteshwar Pujara | Joe Root | Kumar Sangakkara | Steve Smith | Ross Taylor | Kane Williamson | Younis Khan
note: one of these players may also end up being selected at 6, or even 7 later. Pick your 3, 4 and 5.
Tendulkar, Lara, Kallis, Ponting, Dravid is a tough nut to crack.Williamson
Smith
Kohli
If anything Younis & Sanga belong in the team of the previous decade.
They belong in the discussion for team of the previous decade is what I meant.Tendulkar, Lara, Kallis, Ponting, Dravid is a tough nut to crack.
I think he's great but clearly a bit below the level of these 3. Same with clarke. Before the fab 4 broke out, amla clarke were probably the two best in the world around 2011-12I said this in the other thread too and obviously Kane Smith Kohli is a completely reasonable universal choice, but Amla is getting hard done by in this discussion.
Theyve both been better this decade than the previous imo, especially Younis. They belong in the discussion for team of the previous decade is what I meant.
His downfall WAS quite prolonged and painful tbf.I said this in the other thread too and obviously Kane Smith Kohli is a completely reasonable universal choice, but Amla is getting hard done by in this discussion.
I was trying to keep the list to ~10 and all these batsmen had 4800+ runs (most of them at 50+ this decade) Chanders only scored 3200 runs.Speaking of which, if Sanga is listed where's Chanderpaul?
Ditto Kallis, Tendulkar, de Villiers. Even Hussey. Lots of great middle order bats in that time. Whereas now you have the Big 4, Pujara and not much else.If we used the ten year window but ignored decades, then it's pretty reasonable that Amla, Sanga, Clarke, Chanders & Younis all have a huge claim to making a 2005 - 2014 team.
Compare it to other eras and it's actually rather ok (Taylor and heaps of decent players who average over 40).Ditto Kallis, Tendulkar, de Villiers. Even Hussey. Lots of great middle order bats in that time. Whereas now you have the Big 4, Pujara and not much else.
