The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

The Tiger King
I can't remember anyone really going after Ambrose in any format TBH. McGrath might have been attacked on a few occasions by Lara/Tendulkar/Razzaq/Pietersen.
Every bowler gets smashed in some format and at some point. I can't think of any who weren't smashed at some point. I do remember watching Imran smashing Garner in an ODI. The video is there on rob's channel too. Found a curtly video too (Although they don't show the earlier earlier six off curtly)

Who is the most unhittable bowler you guys have ever watched?

From whom I have seen, it is Curtly Ambrose.

From what I have heard or read, it is Bapu Nadkarni.

He bowls that awkward length and trajectory that is very hard to get under. Very rarely misses the yorker. He's not as destructive as some of the other ODI great bowlers such as Starc but brilliant in his own way.

yes, bumrah is exceptional, one of the best ever already at the death

remains to be seen how he deals with injuries though. if he stays as effective after returning from injuries.

Ive been thinking a bit about all time ATG lately and believe the following players should be considered:

Greenidge
Lara
Kallis
Miandad
Jadeja
Knott
Dev
McGrath

Thats a strong core and if you chuck in a few underrated cricketers whos surname start between A and Greenidge mean time, you're laughing.

Right now my ATG XI is:

Hobbs
Hutton
Bradman
Grace - 6
Kallis - 7
Sobers - 5
Gilchrist +
Hadlee - 2
Marshall - 3
Warne - 4
McGrath - 1

Kallis just ahead of Tendulkar, Lara, Headley, Hammond, and Pollock.

As a batsman I don’t rate Kallis above any of the other players you mentioned and his bowling really shouldn’t be a selection factor with 6 better bowlers ahead of him imo.

I'm selecting him for his batting. Unlike the likes of Tendulkar and Hammond he didn't have much support. His ability to face attacks with little batting support at a position he isn't good in is what makes him in to my side. Through this his batting average managed to be higher than Tendulkar's, who played with the support of Dravid, Sehwag, Laxman, Ganguly, and Azharuddin for significant proportions of his career. There are many more points I could point out but I don't have the time.

Sorry? Didn’t have much support? For over half his career he had players like Smith, de Villiers, Kirsten, Amla and Gibbs. Not to mention Prince and Cullinan who also played with him for huge chunks. The bolded part doesn’t even make any sense.

The impression that Kallis could do things without support was formed early career, when the rest of the top was crap or out of form, and he was consistently holding an imploding top order together. He did show he can do things without support.

Whether or not there is any reason to consider him a better bat for it is debateable, and I dont see any reason to say it should get him into a team in which he will clearly have a whole lot of support.

Anyway, I dont think hes the 7th best bowler either. Its really hard to rank him behind Sobers and WG.

Would certainly rank him behind Sobers and Grace. Unlike Kallis, both were frontline bowlers for their teams and the Dr. was indeed one of the very best bowlers in the country for many years, and Sobers, whilst bowling a ton of overs had amazing variety as well.
