South Africa team selection

Breetzke, J Malan, and possible van Tonder. Moore for now possibly?
Being able to pick on gut call is what we will need to be doing potentially. Don't trust the runs a domestic level to judge and weigh up. SA A shows Pieter Malan is dire but he goes and dominates the 4-day.

We want to see Moore and J.Malan step up when the spotlight was on them and in 4 innings they both haven't gone past 50.

Calls for K.Petersen in SA A but he isn't even the best batsmen in the Knights team.

Such a tough job ahead for the director of cricket, selectors and coaching staff. These jobs can't be selected on a whim. This is trying to re-vitalize SA cricket from it's worst spell since the 50s.

Yes this is the worst point I've seen our cricket in my lifetime. Although that's not much point of reference!

OK, at this point, let's just throw in all the young talented guys we hype up for the future - they can't do worse than the current lot.

Wonder if Faf is going to throw it in anyways.

Haven't enjoyed this new mindset under him especially at the world cup where they said failure is fine. SA teams need to have that extra bit pushing them even if they demanding too much of themselves. It could have sounded like the best thing going but if it backfired like it did it looked meek and mild. Sure, the skills weren't good enough anyway but we didn't even push the best teams.

I don't care if we too serious but like Stephen has brought up we need that discipline back and we need it fast. We need players to feel that failure isn't all right to push them on.

Looks like they’ve stopped having a dig this game - the worst insult you can give a sportsperson. I can’t recall as abject performance from an RSA side since their readmission.

It's depressing mate.

We were always in the contest even if we were team of lesser quality than the opposition.

This is a very hard period to be in. Going to take some time to rebuild. Serious decisions to take regarding the director & captain.

Was just pondering about how bad that Gibson stint really was for us. The spicy home decks really never gave us an inclination about how these fast bowlers would go on flatter surfaces, and totally nerfed Maharaj for the most part. And it didn't help our batsmen in getting practice putting up big scores. Looks more and more like a bad appointment now. Although, hindsight etc etc.
It has backfired spectacularly. None of our bats have any confidence due to it.

Lol how is Klassen getting a cap? Wasn't there at stat SeamUp brought up where he averages 20 for the A side? Maybe it's purely to give QDK a rest with the gloves, but seems unbelievably generous

Australia are having the same issues where they pick form players. Problem with SA is they do it and then stick by them too long afterwards. Klaasen has been so badly out of form for 12-18 months now.

The issue for me is not having selectors who have a bit of foresight and just go by numbers. Oh to go get Peter Pollock again who picked Gibbs, Kallis, Pollock, Boucher, Ntini, Adams etc on that

The tour has just reaffirmed what we already knew about certain players, and also shown up some players we thought would stand up. I want to go on a rant, but I'll wait for after this Test.

Yeah for sure. Tough times. India away always a tough ask but this has been as bad as it gets

Does anyone come out of this with some credit? Maybe Linde for this one off Test. Everyone else was below their standard or just plain horrible.

Themba Bavuma is not a long term test player. He's not the guy to get you 100s. De Bruyn is also not cutting it at this level. He's simply not good enough. Faf is done at this level. His heart is not there anymore. How Klassen was selected will forever remain a mystery. He's been bang average for two seasons and yet he's still getting called up. Wtf? Unfortunately South African cricket is never one for total rebuilds but we need it. We've backed the wrong horses for far too long.
