At least we haven't got Buttler playing as a bat. They needed to decide over who kept and have done. No arguments about the squad really though don't know much about Parkinson and Crawley.

Would still have preferred the coach being involved and named though.

Not sure how true but on one of the cricket podcasts I recently listened to they suggested we wouldn't have a permanent coach in place by the time of this tour

c overton went there in 2018 and looked totally harmless in the one test he played.

i don't buy at all that new zealand is going to be conducive to blokes like him, woakes and gregory tbh. none of them are proven test match standard bowlers irrespective of conditions and conditions there are never as tough as talked up.

Zak Crawley is probably the biggest surprise for me. hadn't thought his record deserved selection.

He's on record as saying he wants to play as a keeper/batsman though. From The Guardian:

He can sod off with that. His attitude last time he lost the gloves was disgraceful. He's been abject for ages in red ball and seems to get out bowled once per game.

They've actually picked bats on county form for the first time in a while rather than potential. Which is what a lot of people have called for for a while. If we have a train wreck winter we can safely assume the reddit/cw hivemind doesn't know what it's doing either.

Plays for Kent, which seems to be one of the main selection criteria nowadays, along with "plays for Surrey", "has the surname 'Curran'", "is a wicketkeeper" & "once bowled over 85mph and is made of glass".

The Test squad is okay based on what's available. With two practise matches and two Tests there's little or no cricket for the those that don't play the Tests. Barring injury the Test XI probably won't have any surprises.

Ah, if there's one thing England selectors have learned over the years, it's not to pick a Lancs spinner too soon......

I'd pick Foakes over Buttler and Bairstow as wicketkeeper in a test match. Last time I'll say that (including last time I'll mention below that England have a highly unpredictable selection policy)



This is England we are talking about! They ignored Burns for an eternity . I do hope Sibley plays as I would have had him opening with Burns ages ago. Denly can bat 3.

What exactly had Sibley done prior to this season that meant he should’ve been in, especially as it would’ve been in place of Alistair Cook.
