Usman is the anti-Steve Waugh. Never does a thing when most needed and downhill skis when it’s a road.
I hate Usman and support his dropping but this isn't really true. He's played some pretty incredible innings (or maybe just 2 or 3 tbh) that have won/saved games. He's just been either mostly ****, or scoring on roads against minnows/NZ, in between.

Usman is the anti-Steve Waugh. Never does a thing when most needed and downhill skis when it’s a road. They’ve just lost patience with the pillow after consecutive home and away series contributing nothing. Let’s be honest, he’s just been a massive pile of nothing since the UAE.
Khawaja makes his runs independently of the circumstances he's batting in. He's played some of the best knocks you'll see (Adelaide vs S.A., UAE) but id's woeful at other times when he should be cashing in.

Why Harris makes it ahead of him is beyond me. Why Pattinson gets dropped and Siddle picked is even more bizarre.

So presumably:

Gravy
Harris
Marnus
TPC
Head
Wade
Paine
Cummo
Starceh
Lyon
Haze

Or Siddle for Starc. If Starc plays then presumably Cummins bowls first change.

How man chances do you want to give the bloke? He’s not Ricky Ponting ffs. He’s basically been a one man hole in a Swiss Cheese batting line up for nearly a year.

I'm really getting sick and tired of Australia's selection policies. We keep adjusting our batting order unnecessarily based on bull****.

Burns and Harris should have been the two openers in the squad other than Warner. Patterson should have been a lock at 6. Khawaja should have been shown more faith at 3. Yeah it's great that Labaschagne has come in and made 3 half centuries and maybe that would be enough to push an incumbent out of their job but the lack of stability in the batting order has our batsmen batting scared of the selection axe.

How many blokes have we rotated through the side over the last year or so?

Finch
Burns
Harris
Bancroft
Khawaja
Labaschagne
Renshaw

Have all rotated in and out of the top 3 (not counting Warner).

The middle order has been more stable but we've still seen Patterson, Marsh and Marsh all given runs there and have publicly speculated about dropping Wade as well.

It's like the selectors have no idea about who the best players are, nor did they have any idea who they think the best players will be. Any number of these guys are talented (even M Marsh but he's been given too many chances) but need to be given stability in the side to bring out their best. Worse still, the guys they have given extended runs to are guys with obvious technical flaws that world class bowling has easily exploited.

How might Steve Waugh have gone if he was dropped constantly in his first few years?

It's really not good enough and shows that the current selectors have no vision or ability to plan.

And yet he's been outperforming Harris and Bancroft. The problem he's had this tour has been an inability to convert starts. Harris and Bancroft have been objectively worse. At least we know Khawaja has it in him to pull out a good innings once a series.

Both of whom are neophytes, one of whom has had a single test this series. Not since the mid-1980s has a senior batsman been so desperately required to stand up as Khawaja has at home to India and in this series. He's done nothing. One ton in his last ten tests while averaging 27, and that on a road at home vs SL who've never won a test in Australia and who brought their weakest side here since the late 80s. Time's up.

Cricinfo suggesting Siddle will be 3rd seamer.

Why even bother having tour games if Starc's 7 wkts vs Siddle’s 3 wkts is ignored (even Marsh took 3 wkts like Siddle ffs)

Massive relief, no Marsh.

Starc over Siddle unless it's an absolute cabbage field. Would have still played Patto myself but hopefully this just means he will come back with a point to prove at the Oval

And anyone proposing dropping Lyon should be taken to a dark room and beaten
Just as well there's no one calling you out on this.

No Marsh makes me happy. No Usman less so. Would have dropped Wade or Harris. Both make a good case for the axe. Starc hopefully will play. He could give Australia the boost we need. I'd prefer him over Pattinson anyway. So no problems with Pattinson being rested/dropped/injured.

Thank **** they aren't picking Marsh.

Bit neutral as to which batsman went for Smith but not unhappy it's Khawaja. Realistically he might be better than Wade and Harris but he had more chances than those guys.

Don't really like leaving out Pattinson but it's not like his performances have been that incredible.

Khawaja dumped for fourth Ashes Test

September 03 2019

Australia have decided to drop Usman Khawaja for the fourth Ashes Test, it was confirmed on Tuesday (September 3). James Pattinson has been rested while Peter Siddle and Mitchell Starc have been named in the 12 for the Test in Manchester.

Khawaja has scores of 13, 40, 36, 2, 8 and 23 so far in the series and has scored run at an average of 20.33. Labuschagne will bat at No. 3 while Smith will slot back at No. 4 as Australia look to retain the Ashes. Mitchell Marsh, however, finds himself out of favour once again despite his good all-round show against Derbyshire.

Australia's 12: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine (c, wk), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins.

Siddle is such a defensive selection in this situation. Starc should be righteously pissed off if he gets passed over again.
