Realistically that point came about half an hour ago
True, but even then 5 an over looked doable and I think Root might've been spooked by what happened against the West Indies. Now there's no way Australia can be agressive enough for long enough without losing 10 wickets.

Surely his point was pretty obviously "don't drop Ali just because he had one bad Test"? Agree or disagree but that seemed pretty plain to me.
Yeah that's fair. I still think the situations are different, Moeen didn't just have a bad Test, he looked mentally cooked.

So what’s Australia’s approach here ? And what’s Warner’s approach ? Batting properly hasn’t really got him anywhere so far this series, maybe he should give it a go and see how far he gets, might find a little form in doing so.

Well they can't win so it's best to try and see off the first 10 overs and if they survive those none down it looks a lot harder for England to force a result.

Warner just needs to go back to basics though. Whatever he's doing now, it's the wrong approach.

3 wickets before tea and make them sweat. I'd open with Woakes though, let Archer have his favoured end after Broads burst.

Australia to lose 8 wickets quickly and then save the game with Siddle and Hazlewood blocking out the last 15 overs.

Holding defending Ali by saying he was a batting all rounder not helped by the fact he's barely scored a run since the last ashes

Bancroft has not inspired since he been given his first cap maybe mitch marsh or stonis is better test match batting option.

The lefty/righty batting order combo is the most overrated thing in cricket. It's an idea they have taken from baseball, where it has greater significance.
