2nd Test, Lord's, London

Broad has really only been good against Australia in home conditions. He averages under 26 against Australia at home and 37 against Australia in Australia.

But he's still the bowler I always feel is the most likely to run through Australia in any one innings. It provably helps that he has 6 five wicket hauls and one ten wicket haul against Australia in England in 17 tests.

He was really good in 2013-14

He was good enough in 2013/14, albeit better in the first test than others, but really **** the bed in 2017/18.

At least we've passed the follow on.

That clip Smith just played from his off stump. Surely that's going to be a liability as he ages and the hand-eye starts going?
Not if he continues to play late and under his eyes.

Granted, massive hooping inswingers do tend to be hard to play.

Really good nut to get Wade. Did nothing wrong. If he was Rory Burns it would have spudded away for four

Some here have posited that he might adopt more conventional tactics later on. We'll see.

Finally the guy who averages 9 here has been put on.

To be fair to Nasser, that's probably about the tenth time Johnson has managed an inswinger in his life.

(Not that he needed one)

All this discussion about how to get Smith out and yet England have a left-arm off-spinner - easily Smith's biggest weakness - and he hasn't bowled yet after 50 overs.

I'm not at all convinced it is, really. Most of that record is due to Herath in SL and Jadeja in India, hardly a situation ripe for scoring tons of runs (and Smith still managed in the latter case).

I'd definitely still rather bowl good outswing to him than meh left-arm orthodox.

In fairness you aren't going to put Leach on early today with the ball doing enough to keep everyone interested.

Didn't Maharaj have his number too though
