Good session for us, important partnership building between these two though. Hard to really judge what's a par score on this pitch - I think anything under 300 is probably not enough, but I would not like to bat on this deck in the 4th innings.

As I say that though the forecast for tomorrow is starting to look worrying, so who knows.

If Root chips a finger, england has the reassurance of Buttler as VC, and if Paine does a hammy, we have Travis Head (and Cummins, but let’s be jest fast bowlers don’t skipper). Michael Vaughan actually said earlier that he has one of the best techniques in the team. Sad that a lower middle order batsman is up there, but still.
