Is it just me or has this quickened up a fair bit since lunch?
The pitch or the match? That one certainly fell short.

Why is it that every time the ball goes towards Khawaja I feel the pangs of terror that he's going to mess it up?

I know Khawaja dropped a sitter at gully, but he looks a decent fielder now...years ago it was "where do we hide him"

This is not a new thing. Buttler was the only one to average over 40 last year in England, and only 6 batsmen averaged over 30 - 3 of them were Dom Bess, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran. Our batsmen haven't known how to bat at home for a while.
That pesky lower order bailed them out a lot against India. Ireland as well. It's not exactly a sustainable strategy, along with winning a lot of tosses.

Bairstow looks like he could get out any moment but these two are doing the right thing and just hanging in there. It will probably get easier when the ball passes sixty or so overs old. This could help save the innings for England.

So Aus still 7 overs behind the over rate..with 12 mins deducted for the 6 wkts, that would be 8 points deducted from WTC...this is still such a farce as nothing happened in first test

Anything over 250 keeps them in the game as we saw in the first Test. Looks like a 400-par first innings pitch though.

Struggle to see England get 450 in the third innings, though.

This partnership looks fairly awkward, though o/c Woakes is significantly better than your average #8.
