Who do you have pegged for your 4 semi finalists?

It could mean something if they do happen to drop their last 3 games against Aust, India and NZ, and may even if they drop 2 out of 3 of those remaining games.
This is just too glorious to contemplate. The best outcome I can dream of is for them to win 1 game to scrape into the finals but then have their final rained out after they won the toss, electing to bat.

Are the finals pitches likely to be better for batting. If so, England's loss means nothing.
Listened to the TMS podcast today, and their thoughts were that if the weather does continue to improve as expected, you may end with some more pitches like the ones from NZ vs SA and ENG vs SL.

But surely... just water the thing? I know heaps.

To keep the WC alive, I'm predicting the following results in the next 6 games (sorry SA and AFG).

Pak (W) vs SA
BD (W) vs AFG
Aus (W) vs Eng
Pak (W) vs NZ
WI (W) vs Ind
SL (W) vs SA

* upset

This would then make the table a real battle:

Aus 7 / 12 pts (to play NZ, SA)
NZ 7 / 11 pts (to play Aus, Eng)

Ind 6 / 9 pts (to play Eng, BD, SL)
Eng 7 / 8 pts (to play Ind, NZ)
SL 7 / 8 pts (to play WI, Ind)
BD 7 / 7 pts (to play Ind, Pak)
Pak 7 / 7 pts (to play AFG, BD)

(WI 7 / 5 pts, SA 8 / 3 pts, AFG 7 / 0 pts)

how does India get to play NZ when NZ only has Australia and England to come?

edit: also just remembered they had a washout. India's last match is Sri Lanka.

Oops, edited now :)

Still shows that while so many people are saying most games are inconsequential now, this scenario has 7 teams still in it :)

Agreed. And (as you pointed ou in the other thread) we are due for a world cup where the winner makes a late dash.

So in my ideal scenario

Pak vs SA - doesn't matter
BD vs Afgh
Eng vs Aus
NZ vs Pak - doesn't matter
WI vs Ind
SL vs SA
Pak vs Afgh - doesn't matter
NZ vs Aus
Eng vs Ind
SL vs WI
BD vs Ind
Eng vs NZ
Afgh vs WI - doesn't matter
Pak vs BD
SL vs Ind
Aus vs SA

Points:

NZ - 15 (not inc Pak game)
SL - 12
BD - 11
India - 11
Aus - 10
Eng - 10

NZ, SL, BD and India semi finalists. Eng and Aus eliminated.

It would be an amazing story. After their worst WC ever, they leave on a high note, by finally beating Australia and eliminating them in the process too

Not Terrible
South Africa beating Australia when they have zero pressure or expectation but it only hurts Australia? Seems feasible

Let's have this one but England beats NZ

NZ - 13 (not inc Pak game)
SL - 12
Eng - 12
BD - 11
-
India - 11
Aus - 10

There, something we can all agree on

in howes scenario i wouldnt be surprised to see a scandal where nz and eng agree to match fix their game because they'd rather play each other in a knock out than india.

In Howe's scenario India might still qualify due to superior NRR and you still get 3/4 favourites in the semis. So it sucks and my scenario is way better.

Reminder that West Indies thrashed Pakistan so massively that despite having won only the single game, they still have a positive NRR.

I really really want England to qualify actually. If India can't win, I want England to win.

NZ should win. India or Australia winning again would be lame. England must not be allowed to win since a win for England means a win for 'bowlers are secondary, just bash it' philosophy.
