ODI cricket will improve tenfold when ICC stops persisting with crappy conventions like Kookaburra balls and host nations with deformed grounds and no climate.

This match is in Wales , which is famous for its rain . For people who haven't visited , it's like a mild monsoon ...but all year round ...with horrible light . Cardiff is down in the dry bit ,just under a metre of rain/per year for those softies . I get over 1.2 metres in an average year ..they don't play a lot of cricket round here :D .

I'm pretty impressed with the ticket sales over here , so financially it must be a right result , but I do find it a bit daft holding it in a place without 10s of millions of fans.

I would hate for this game to be a rain affected draw . Afghanistan deserve a chance to fight for a win .

If the innings ends here at 182/8 in 33, apparently the revised target will be 171 in 33..

Wouldn't it be nice if SL won the thing after this like Pakistan in '92.
Nah sorry to the fans but SLC deserve nothing but failure for the way they've acted the past couple of years. Bad enough them winning the SA series despite their horrible selection policy for it. Suffering here is necessary for them to not become a complete prank side on the back of muh WC success.

sri lanka using nearly 60 players this wc cycle is impressive. thats like a whole domestic system. would love to see the list.

It's interesting how the revised target intuitively seems to go from too high to about right, just based on how many overs are lost. Maybe it's just our lizard brains that are wrong about this sort of stuff, but I feel like the system could do with a tweak or two sometimes even though I'm a staunch defender of the concept of it.

Makes sense to me. D/L probably says they'd be all out on average by the 37th over and so they would be chasing a target of 210 over 50, so 173 over 33 is probably about right.

It should be, but I wouldn't put it past the Lankans to fail to capitalise on such a start.

They're no strangers to rapid starts, only to be bowled out not batting the overs.
What are tonight's lotto numbers?

1/140 odd after 22 overs was about where I flicked on and then off again, opting to learn a new programming language instead. How does any team go from that to 8/180? Against a team that was an associate a couple of years back. It's crazy.

Cricbuzz has the list of fastest Sri Lankans to 3,000 runs. Not an order I would've picked:

Tharanga fastest, Atapattu 2nd, then Thirimanne (got there today), Mahela, Chandimal, Sanga.

No Dilshan and I guess Aravinda played in a much tougher era.
SL play a lot of ODIs against minnows (Bangladesh starting to lose the tag but for many years we dominated them), or at least it felt like we did between 2012 and 2016.

Dilshan blossomed pretty late in his career, debuted early in the 2000s and only turned pro in about 2009 iirc

And yes this is obviously depressing, lots of litter to be taken to the trash once this campaign is done. Has been a very rough tumble in LO cricket since the 2014 world t20, 2015 WC was a solid team in decline and absolutely nothing has come through the ranks to fill in the gaps since.

Match gets washed out, Sri Lanka interprets this as being given a second chance by whatever God they worship and rally to win the whole kit and caboodle
