The only footage I have seen of Rice with the ball is all late in his career, hard to get a fair idea of his ability when he was around 40ish at the time

I noted that as well. But did not want to crush his belief that Botham had at least one good test against WI.

I thought his low WPM due to a long career. But when I checked , it's a normal 20 yrs plus FC stats. People always rates him as a good bowler. Also his new ball partnership with Hadlee in county Cricket was famous. His bowling AVG is in atg category.So I figured out him being a good bowler , probably a shock bowler mould more so than Miller.
I am sure he was better than Kallis and even Sobers, but below other great ARs as a bowler. Anyway I need more clarity. (Another one is Sydney Barnes )
