Bairstow is just great.
To be honest, this has been the case a good part of this decade.350 is the new 250
Defendable but should be chased down
Couldn’t be further from the truth. Teams batting first have scored 350 or more on 116 occasions and it’s been chased down 9 times.To be honest, this has been the case a good part of this decade.
Yep. But have a feeling that the chasing teams got very close on many other occasions. Also, I guess 350+ scores by teams batting first and 300+ by teams chasing have increased a lot compared to the previous decade.Couldn’t be further from the truth. What?Big chases are more common than they used to be. Look up the records for biggest chases and most of them are recent (though that freak 2006 game still blows everything away).
But '350 is the new 250' is both a ludicrous exaggeration and a crotchety bit of old git nonsense. 250 hasn't been a good score for 35 years.
I hate to blow your mind but the mid 1980s were 35 years ago.What?
I am pretty sure 250 was a very good score in the mid 1980s
I was having a laugh. Stop being such a stick in the mudBig chases are more common than they used to be. Look up the records for biggest chases and most of them are recent (though that freak 2006 game still blows everything away).

It was a 60 over game in those days broI hate to blow your mind but the mid 1980s were 35 years ago.
The first 3 games in the 1983 world cup were 322 v 216ao, 338 v 288/9 and 333 v 286ao btw. Things haven't changed that much - though a lot more teams used to get bowled out.
The first three looked like anomalies more than anything. The rest of the WC saw 39 out of 54 scores of 250 and under, with plenty of <200s.I hate to blow your mind but the mid 1980s were 35 years ago.

+ SternThey should remove 'Cricket' from the name and just call it 'The ICC World Cup'.
The last one was salvaged from being a total farce because of the games in New Zealand;
this one has no redemption at all other than one that may be provided by Messrs. Duckworth and Lewis..
I reckon that's a bit of an exaggeration. The average ODI first-innings RPO only touched 5 for the first time in 2002: Aggregate/overall records | One-Day Internationals | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPNcricinfo.com250 hasn't been a good score for 35 years.
Give me 30 seconds.Shouldn't this thread be sticky?
