Different format and a step down in quality. It's like saying Warner and Smith will have a great world cup when the truth is that ipl form means nothing or Lynn would be an ODI match winner.Woo! Shubhman Gill hitting 86! I'm sorry I didn't watch the game; this is bigger than whatever that Hardik Pandya did.
Really fancy South Africa in this World Cup, with their key players - Rabada, Tahir, QdK - all hitting form at the right time.
All they need now is for Markram to play up to his potential.
Don't think his athleticism has taken a hit. Timing and finding gaps when batting seem like the real problem.Dhoni is fine when he has to keep for twenty overs and then bat for six overs. Fifty overs is a bit too much for the old man.
Don't think this is a fair statement. Lynn basically didn't play a 50 over match for 3 or 4 years IIRC when he became good in other formats because of Australia's god awful 1-month-a-year domestic comp.50 overs has always been Lynn's weakest format. Actually has a really good Shield record, if he wasn't made out of glass he may well have been a fixture in the Test team by now, unfortunately we will never know
Id say yes. I think every run or wicket scored affects your career stats, I know washout ODI runs doDo these 5 over game numbers count towards their stats
Yeah he did have a good tournament, still wouldn't even remotely consider selecting him for ODIs though. That time where they dropped Maxwell for him was a complete and utter farce, especially considering he clearly wasn't fit when selected.Don't think this is a fair statement. When he finally got a chance to play the ODI domestic comp this season he averaged 75 at an insane SR.
I would pick Lynn for the ODI side in certain circumstances, eg. really flat wicket with big scores expected. His biggest issue is his fielding and lack of mobility due to chronic injury, which can potentially cost the team.Yeah he did have a good tournament, still wouldn't even remotely consider selecting him for ODIs though. Completely agree that the current domestic one day format is fundamentally insufficient. Especially playing at Hurstville, absolute joke of a ground
I wasn't so much saying he is inherently weak at the format, more saying that I don't think his Big Bash from should count in his favour when it comes to 50 over cricket. Probably wasn't clear enough about that.I would pick Lynn for the ODI side in certain circumstances, eg. really flat wicket with big scores expected. He definitely doesn't have a weakness for 50-over cricket as you suggested though. His relatively poor stats in the format are just a result of him hardly playing at all since he improved significantly as a player.
Yeah I think Lynn needs to sort out his injury issues before I'd back him for a regular spot. I definitely wouldn't consider him a crazy selection though.I wasn't so much saying he is inherently weak at the format, more saying that I don't think his Big Bash from should count in his favour when it comes to 50 over cricket. Dropping Maxwell for him was cataclysmically stupid, even before you factor in fitness and fielding
Fat chance of that ever happening, Bloke has tried to rush back and subsequently reinjured himself a few times now. He hasn't been smart with his fitness at any point, can't help but get the feeling a lot of his issues could have been avoided with a more cautious approachYeah I think Lynn needs to sort out his injury issues before I'd back him for a regular spot. I think he underarms it or does really soft throws lolHe's somewhat cautious, he literally doesn't dive in the field, barely chases the ball in fact ha. Bit crazy it's come to that though for a bloke not yet 30
Edit - can he also not throw? Or did I imagine that part
More or less what I was saying.I don't think Lynn's decisions on when he's been "fit" or not had much to with how fit he actually was, more so just whether or not there was a T20 tournament on the time he could play in
