His ODI average is 6 runs higher than Finch's too

He averages 24 and strikes at 72 there in 10 ODIs.
I really don't think he should be considered for anything other than opener. His strike rotation, at least at the start of his innings, still frankly sucks in this format, and he's not the sort of guy who can really make up for it deep by going large either. The only way he can avoid getting bogged down at the start is by getting a few boundaries away in the PowerPlay and then building on innings on top of that, which is the main reason he's been more successful opening in this format IMO. Generally not having to face spin from the start helps too.
At any batting position lower than 2 I'd take Marsh ahead of him any day of the week, and if I had to move someone down to get Warner in then I'd move Finch.

We're all crystal balling but I dunno if I buy the roads idea. Not that early in the English season anyway. Guess we'll see.

This is a huge factor in keeping him batting high too. From memory, he was out on the slap to spin more than half of his outs the past summer so I'd say the idea that he allegedly nutted this particular issue on a couple of highways in the UAE is questionable at best. Has to open.
Really don't like this idea, at all, of pushing Finch down the order to fit others in. Using someone's form in one spot as a reason to shore up a weakness further down I would never back as a good idea when, at best, Finch can be a contributor at 5 whereas at 1 he wins you the game. **** is so specialised these days, guys train for specific roles and positions even a few days out from a game. Finch is smashing it at the top, it's the one thing that's working after the past couple of disastrous years, keep the **** there doing that.

In fairness to him, he at least he looks like he has an approach that he's resolutely sticking to these days (liberal use of the conventional and reverse sweep). That's a vast improvement on the "tentatively lean forward and poke bat somewhere vaguely in the direction of the ball" which was his MO beforehand.

The reverse is, yeah. I wonder whether in gearing his game for conditions in Oz whether he's sacrificing his play anywhere else. Personally I think so but we'll see. He's hitting them well and the late-season Ashes might suit him. His record in England can't get much worse...

I think he'll be better than before. His spin-play has improved a lot. But yea I won't mind Finch in the middle-order either. Warner mustn't be moved down.
