Dhoni, Rayudu and Karthik are still 3 vital cogs to be had in the Indian middle order. Pant and Shankar have failed the WC test.

How has Shankar failed? This was his first real failure in 4 innings this series. That 46 he made the other day was brilliant and he got out through no fault of his own. He slapped a very handy 26 (15) to finish the previous innings and made 32 (30) in another one.

Anyways this is seriously embarrassing. Everything seems to be falling apart right before the world cup.

To me, Shankar is auditioning for the backup all-rounder position and failed in his bowling. As a pure middle order bat, Shaw, Gill, Rahul, Iyer etc. pip him easily.

Both Shankar and Pant have failed in their second discipline while getting a minimum pass on the first.

I mean if it were us in your position, that could easily be a sign that it's all going to plan. Witness 2007: experimental side sent out for pre-WC ODIs dismally fails, actual WC is completely dominant.

Yeah his bowling is pedestrian. Barely club standard imo.

Shaw, Rahul and Gill aren't middle order batsmen, and as much as I agree they have a better chance of long term success than Shankar, there's no more time to try them out. It's between Shankar and Karthik for that last spot imo.

We'll probably see this come the WC (unless the IPL has a say)

It's perfect. Karma for scheduling a million ODIs
Yeah. I'm hoping it's a lack of sharpness for India from playing a lot of cricket over the last few months, tour of England, Asia Cup, Australia, NZ etc. Australia have been great today.

Also, I think the IPL should help the bowlers tune up their death bowling skills and some of the middle order batsmen can work on their slogging.

And I hope the main guys like Kohli, Bumrah, and Rohit get some rest during the IPL FFS. No need to play every freaking game.

Until about a couple of years ago India used to almost always win chasing. These days India really struggle at chases. Openers haven't been in top form in last 2-3 months and our tail starts at #4. Time to book early return flight from England for team India
