I reckon they'll lose this one unless there's a lot in the decks.

Unless I'm missing something, Eng has hosted four WC's, Asia three & Oceania two.

Where on earth did "Mr Lesser" come from? Is that meant to be about Ponting?

We've had 11 world cups. I'm going to create an ATXI with one player from the winning side from each WC. The requirements are that they needed to do well in the final as well as being a good player:

Boon 1987
Gilchrist (w/k) 2007
Richards 1979
De Silva 1996
Lloyd (c) 1975
Dhoni 2011
Kapil 1983
Starc 2015
Akram 1992
Warne 1999
McGrath 2003

Hard leaving out Ponting for his 2003 performance but the choice basically came down to Viv+McGrath or Ponting+Garner. Would take all 4 of those players if possible. I could get Garner in if I picked Viv for 1975 but that wouldn't be fair on Lloyd who actually made runs in that final.

Murali wasn't possible. Was nowhere near as good as de Silva in the final with the bat or the ball.

Boon takes 87 since a) we needed an opener and b) I couldn't pick Australia's best bowlers since they were S Waugh and Border.

Hard choice for a Pakistani player since Imran hit a match winning 70 odd but Akram took the wickets. Could have gone either way.

Kapil pretty much got through by default since that India side was filed with nobodies and he had a decent all round match (despite not getting motm).

Dhoni scored the runs in 2011 so wins the place. Tough on Gambhir but such is life.

Starc wins 2015 in a close race over Johnson, Clarke and Smith. He was the form bowler for the tournament and took 2/20 as the kiwis choked hard.

Faulkner, as pointed out by TJB, was the MOTM for the 2015 CWC final. Probably deserves that spot.

I'd pick Mohinder Amarnath over Kapil for 1983 too. Awesome team otherwise.
