Starc bowled genuinely well for his wickets today. Hope it's a return to decent rhythm just in time for the world cup and ashes series'.

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
Harris Burns Khawaja Smith Head Patterson Paine Cummins Starc Lyon Hazlewood

Bancroft Warner Labuschagne Handscomb Pucovski Stoinis Wade Tremain Richardson Siddle Holland.

If Pucovski isnt fit, probably S Marsh or Finch since they will be there anyway for the World Cup

Test quality pace bowlers currently in Australia (guys who would conceivably make a test XI and do a decent job if other options were injured or who have played tests and performed reasonably well):

Starc
Cummins
Richardson
Hazlewood
Pattinson
Bird
Tremain
Behrendorff
Coulter-Nile
Siddle

Guys just below/ not sure about:
Boland
Neser
Worrall
Meredith
Sayers
Copeland
Abbott

Anyone else I'm forgetting?

For some reason I don't see Tremain being able to transfer his domestic ability to internationals. I don't know why, but just feel that way from watching him. I don't think Coulter-Nile is really test class either.

Would be inclined to agree tbh, seen the odd spell that looks test quality from him but also seen days where he can lose his rhythm and be pretty floaty and innocuous. Would almost put him in the same category as Mennie, quality at Shield level but not quite good enough for the next step up.

As for NCN, been so long since I have seen him with a red ball that frankly I can't really comment either way

Generous to Siddle

Wouldn't want to rely on anyone below the top 5. Since Pattinson is perma crocked make that the top 4.
I'd feel comfortable with Behrendorff or Bird

Yeah i'd be Ok with Jackson Bird. Not so much Dorff simply because I've doubts about his fitness. Well for tests anyway. On reflection he should be picked for the WC. I'm not sure other teams would be ready for him.

Dorff isn't playing FC cricket this season so it doesn't really matter for now, but fwiw I do think his bowling would be dangerous in Test cricket, especially with the new rock

He definitely looked the goods with the white ball against SA earlier this season.

Obviously a lot of those players are in the permanently injured list unfortunately. But there is a lot of fast bowling depth in Aus cricket at the moment.

Yeah, no matter how low the batting stocks drop, or how few quality spinners we have on the scene, we're never short of fast bowlers. Never ending conveyor belt.

Personally I have always quite liked the point of difference having a left armer in the attack offers, hypothecitally if Behrendorff wasn't so injury prone Starc's place in the team may not be as secure.

Boland and Sayers would be b serviceable seamers at test level too. Wouldn't set TBT world alight or anything but they'd be ok.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Sayers could be decent in friendly conditions and therefore be ok at test level. Like Anderson.
