Bowling 22 overs of Munro, Neesham, CdG for just the one wicket while Santner/Astle bowled 8 in total seems like a mistake. Like yesterday Munro wasn't even in the starting XI and we're wasting time bowling him out.

NZ had no business losing this game IMO, India recovered well each time and good sides do that. But the amount of damage that was self inflicted, boy.

the "bat deep at the expense of real bowling" strategy really paid off today, we should try it at the world cup
No problems with the selection, just the way resources were used plus some utterly brainless batting at times.

Pretty obvious they were trying out bowlers for the WC.

If Kane wanted to bowl them out he would have kept Henry and Boult going along with Santner and Astle.

Even then. Boult could have left the hitting to Henry. Stupidity
I know he’s a number 11, but Boult has an incredible catalogue of brainless batting. Like obviously he’s just not a very good batsman, but surely that doesn’t correlate to ‘it’s impossible to not try and hit everything for 6’?

It's a small thing, and lots of other stuff lost us that game, but so disappointed by boult's batting there. You've just watched the bloke at the other end smoke two into the stands. Dig in and play a few out for him. I swear when we're bowling against other teams they always seem to be aware of things like that, but our tail gets a free pass.

Yeah, was shouting out loud at my screen for him to just turn the strike to Henry while simultaneously knowing he was going to do just that.

4-1....new zealand get worse and worse each year facing any opposition that can actually fight back. It hurts for me to say this but the constant selections of the likes of southee, munro, cdg and such have placed a complacency in the squad and it shows. No fear of being axed and the under-performing continued and continued, Anytime New zealand were placed in a pressure situation by opposition that shows a mild hint of a fightback, NZ ran outta options and failed to execute. Making the semis will be a tall task, Pak and SA will have a better chance. I reckon the true odi rankings are as such

england
india
South africa
Pakistan
Nz/aus
who cares about the rest really

jeez...Munro was bowling because he bowled 8 overs for 25 while everyone else was poor and Santner got picked off on a seemingly seam-friendly surface

I can understand thinking Astle should have got more of a bowl but I really think Munro was just bowling because it was working on the day.

Both teams went with the #bat deep combo, India wouldn't have crossed 200 if they'd played their usual balance IMO. Weirdly it turned out to be an entertaining game.

Williamson and the top order lost the game for NZ, they could have made it a cakewalk if they'd got off to a bit of a flyer.

tbh if not for an inexplicable moment by Neesham we could be talking about NZ winning by 4 wickets with a couple of overs to spare

Such a disappointing match in the end. We had two or even three chances to close out the match and just blew it.

True but sometimes you should just know when to take a guy off. And not the first time it's happened - KW sneaks in two Munro overs, gets all excited about the fifth bowler quota filling up and persists beyond necessary. Boult/Henry should have been back way earlier if the idea was to restrict India. If the idea was to explore WC options, Astle should've bowled.
