Australian test selection 2018/19

Have to say Holland is still the second best spinner in the country. Your teams are probably close. I'd suggest Hughes won't be picked and it'll be Shaun Marsh. He's a young man with a lot of potential.

Yeah I struggled with finding the 6th batsman as I couldn't bring myself to pick a Marsh, so Hughes was it. I think it's more likely Mitch Marsh will get the gig though as I think Sean is finally too old to ever being given another chance

The normal awards that everyone else has
CA has arranged an Aus vs Aus-A 4 day game in Eng starting 23 July (1st Test starts 1 Aug). They stated this would be "the best 22 players available" so should rule out the typical A selections of giving potential young guys ago.

Assuming all of the current side would make the 22, who would you pick as the other 11?

Curremt side: Burns, Harris, Khawaja, Labuschagne, Head, Patterson, Paine, Cummins, Starc, Richardson, Lyon

My other 11 players

Warner, Renshaw, Hughes, Smith, Handscomb, Stoinis, Wade, Pattinson, Boland, Tremain, Hazlewood

Note: Smith and Warner to bowl spin as couldn't come up with a 2nd spinner. Maybe Holland?
Still think OKeefe is the second best spinner in the country. Assuming Smith and Warner are back in the first XI, along with Hazelwood, this'd be my first and second elevens:

Harris
Warner
Burns
Smith
Head
Patterson
Paine +
Cummins
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

Hughes
Renshaw
Pukovski
Handscomb
Stoinis
Maxwell
Wade
OKeefe
Boland
Richardson
Bird

Leaving out Khawaja, as he's been woeful this summer when we've needed him and he's been poor in England previously. Leaving out S.Marsh, in spite of the fact I think his raw talent is so good and that he's probably the most skilful batsman in Australia. Cant see him getting another chance in tests.

What are the odds that Burns is recalled for two tests, averages 80+ and is dropped for the next test?

the man In Form, Marcus Harris is no longer In Form. what do we do
pick the new man In Form, until the new man In Form is no longer In Form.

Except if it's Nick Bertus or Glenn Maxwell, in which case never pick them.

With Usman's hundred I reckon this is now a locked XII for next test

Warner
Burns
Khawaja
Smith
Head
Patterson
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

12th Richardson

starc/haze definitely should still be pencilled in for now, but that's it - pencilled. if hazlewood doesn't regain form and richardson continues his trajectory, that'll be a very interesting shootout when the time comes, as richardson looks suited to the bones to english conditions

Burns vs Jimmy A will only end in one way but he deserves his shot to prove otherwise. Also have to bare in mind that both Warner and Smith are presently injured (with Smith's injury being more serious) but still if both picks up from where they left, this series could be really interesting. Been a fan of both Head and Patterson for a while now and its great to see them coming of age

Burns v Jimmy Anderson will end with Burns diipsy-dooing down the deck and bopping Anderson over long on for six to bring up his double ton to help Australia to a 3-0 series lead tbh

Is Warner guaranteed to slot straight back into the openers role? After the India series I was would have said yes. And in my opinion, he’s not only a better batsman than Marcus Harris, but a better selection. I just can’t be sure the selectors will do it though.

If Warner and Smith are to slot back in, then this Test has been a Godsend. The four next best batsmen all scored hundreds to round out the top 6.

Richardson ought to play in England. Sir Patrick is indispensable at the moment. Sussex
Dropping Starc in England sounds outrageous but if he keeps being crap so be it. Yeah he got a fifer with some cheap tail wickets. Richardson in England could be a potential Alderman type thing tbh.
