Ya know, Henry is a pretty clueless death bowler but for some reason, he does have that corey anderson knack for taking wickets at death tho, lol.

so who wants to come and argue with me about having 5 real bowlers?

it was cute to sneak through a munro spell, but this innings right here is a classic example of where lockie ferguson in place of one of the allrounders could have caused another 90 all out.

the pressure released was so clearly visible/ when you have a team 4 down, you must kill them.

noted death bowler matt henry is killing this fightback very quickly.

Having Ferguson come on after Boult and Henry would've been perfect today. If you've got two spinners in the side, bowl them and not the two seam-up all-rounders who offered nothing.

C'mon man, you keep saying this, but I'm not seeing your proposed ideal Phlem XI (unless I keep missing it).

I think it's hard to criticise a 90 (113) too much considering it was, what, 4/25ish?
I mean, surely we all know that outcomes in individual games of cricket are not always directly tied to execution? Rayudu played a superb innings on paper based on the exact factors you mentioned, but in reality he really wasn’t batting well at all, that was exactly my point.

Excellent recovery from 18/4 but we have an extra deep batting lineup to thank for that today. Don't think the bowling resources will be sufficient to defend it, but good to see they haven't collapsed in a heap again like the last game.

I tend to agree this is more about selection than captaincy. Astle seemed like a weird choice to bowl at that stage, but who was a better option between overs 40-46? There’s simply no-one you can trust when the slog is on

India have fought back well. If they get 250 it will have been a fairly great effort after being 4 for **** all. Poor bowling strategy by NZ. Seems like they expected the same outcome as last match with the iddle order throwing their wickets away to CdG

you do

guptill
nicholls
kane
taylor
latham (wk)
neesham or cdg
santner
sodhi or astle
henry/southee/milne
ferguson
boult
Appreciate the dilemma, but Santner isn't a 7, but is a very useful 8. If we had a Shane Watson it would solve the issue.

I'd prefer a

Guptill
CDG 5
KW 7
Boss
Latham +
Nicholls
Neesham 6
Santner 4
Astle (or Milne if seam-friendly) 3
Ferguson 2
Boult 1

I'm willing to concede 10 overs between CDG, Neesham & KW is a little risky, but I'd take it for the benefit of batting deep like the world's no.1 side England do.

I mean, his technique might be flawed but at some point people may have to admit the bloke averaging 50 can bat

I don't mind this side but Santner batting 7 feels weak.
he averages just under 30 at a solid strike rate, and im pretty sure he played at 7 against england. he'll be fine.

in an absolutely perfect world we'd have him at #8 but our options aren't perfect and you need your 5th bowler to be good every game. if you need your #8 every game you suck and aren't going to win the world cup regardless of how deep you bat.

Mixture of Santner/Neesham with Henry and Boult to finish.
