Hardly. England have lots of flaws. That 3 of our stronger batsmen are FC wicketkeepers isn’t one of them, yet it’s relentlessly trotted out.

You are making something out of nothing. :)

nothing worse than stacking the batting (or bowling) and getting murdered in that department anyway.
Reminds me of one of the fools on here who once created a thread about being ordinary away and batting for a draw.

Its interesting to say what the biggest issue is as Holder just got man of the match because of his amazing batting performance which might not have happened if England had of picked a better bowling attack.

Im focusing on the bowling because there are better options and Id rather see the best bowling lineup chosen instead of seeing a worse bowler picked to help out the batting because it just looks bat when thay guy fails with the bat.
No doubt the Holder/Dorwich partnership was a fantastic one. When they came together WI had a lead of 332, the game was hardly in the balance! Had their partnership been 0, WI would have won the game! Anyone that goes on to score a double hundred, then maybe their MOM award is justified, but I’m not sure it was Test defining.

Broad needs to come in for Rashid. Two ordinary spinners plus Root sending a few down is a waste of space really.

I can’t help but think that Chris Woakes is unlucky not to get a go as well. Just got injured at the wrong time against India and lost out to Curran who offers a similar skill set but less experience.

While the non selection of Broad backfired, the game was virtually over once England got rolled for 77 on a reasonable pitch

That’s got nothing to do with the bowlers

Holder pretty obviously deserved the MOTM. To go with his double ton he took two top order wickets in the first innings including Root.

Not sure anyone suggested he didn’t, the only point being his double ton, as fantastic as it was, was probably made at a point where a duck would have seen the same outcome, and that’s not hindsight, that was fairly clear at the time.

I kind of suggested it was up for debate.

Because as you said if he scores 0 Windies still win. If you think obviously Holder is MotM, than the bowling is a problem, not just the batting.

Anyway, 9 overs from Rashid means he is gone next Test.

Lots of talk about the arrogance of UK media. Boycott and Flintoff particularly. I'm used to it tbh, English media is pretty dreadful and not a reflection of Brits in general.

Boycott I expect negativity from but Flintoff's tweet was particularly stupid. Jason is clearly a better all-rounder than Freddie was anyway and has only one less century having played 40 less matches.

Yeah Flintoff hasn’t done himself much good with some of his post-cricket stuff

... did not see that coming from Chase. Looks like England self destructed but that's what scoreboard pressure does.

That's a thumping.

People are getting a little too obsessed with the concept of downhill skiing. If he got 0 and England only had to chase 350, yeah Windies are still big favourites. But there would certainly be 3 possible outcomes. Removing the chance of a windies loss makes them valuable runs. Especially considering he got them quick enough to allow his side over 6 sessions to bowl England out.

Lastly, itl be hard for a number 8 to ever get valuable runs if we only allow for team rescuing innings to count. Annoys me

A target of 350 would've very much seen England with an outside chance. I'd say at least the first 50 runs of Holder's double were match defining and the rest cashing in. I suppose you only get that sort of critical+downhill skiing split in a lower order daddy hundred.
