If he was a good captain he’d probably drop himselfSouthees captaincy has been pretty good imo
given how much use we made of ajaz, not a bad shout. still indispensable insurance thoor we stop bothering with a specialist spinner in home tests
I don't think he's past it or anything, and he's genuinely the fittest bowler I've ever seen play for us so I don't necessarily buy the 'he's 32-33 now so one bad performance means he must be on the wane'.why? wagner's had a quiet year bar a couple of spells but i don't see anything career ending. he's probably still the fittest bowler in the team.
this is fair, but i think us kiwis (much like our australian cousins) tend to prematurely blow our loads over players who show something (and write players off based on a game or two). i'd be happy to rest southee and boult for at leat 2 of the bangladesh tests to send in wagner as attack leader with ferguson and someone else to see what happens.I don't think he's past it or anything, and he's genuinely the fittest bowler I've ever seen play for us so I don't necessarily buy the 'he's 32-33 now so one bad performance means he must be on the wane'.
But teams and coaching staff aren't underrating a guy with his record and success anymore. More and more he's going to be coming up against blokes that have played him once, twice, three times, etc. He's still a good bowler so I'd back him to produce decent results, but just not on the level I think Ferguson could at the moment.
It's rare that a guy like Lockie comes along, and he's producing results consistently at all levels. And most importantly, he's not made of glass.
