Guptill takes a great catch to get rid of the dangerous Perera. How the hell has this guy only got a batting average of 21??

Surely Seifert can only make this team as a batsman? His keeping is barely FC standards.

Looking forward to Southee taking the new ball at the world cup with an average of 36 btw.

Chuffed to see Fergo end up with good figures tbh. Was worried if he'd end up with sub par figures and again see himself out of the side. Absolute must in ODIs really.

And gun stuff from Nicholls, he's really been a revelation tbh

Feel sorry for Nicholls, because after such a good performance today, he’s still probably not gonna make the starting XI for the World Cup.

Yar, it was worth giving the Seifert experiment another go, but his keeping is Wade-tier trash. The only spot I could see for him in the side right now is as an opener pitch hinter, but I doubt his batting is goiin to offer more than Munro's just yet.

Too easy in the end. Would have been interesting to see NZ being made to chase 300 plus (and how Malinga and co. would have gone about defending it) , but it is what it is. But great to see Nicholls showing some modern ODI batting chops, the guy just continues to surprise.

Liking the idea of Milne (or Bennett) complementing this attack, Henry and Southee just seem cannon fodder if it's a typical flat ODI pitch. Southee should probably spend the next 4 months working on death bowling, would be okay with him holding on to his spot if he were prepared to take full responsibility for that job alone.

Congrats to NZ on a deserved series win..as for SL, I like the team changes but the batting order seems bizarre to me? Why would you change an opening partnership that is working? Shanaka is a #7 and will never bat higher..there is no sense in how we are playing at the moment..for me, I would rest Kusal Mendis from odis and play sadeera. Malinga is not a captain.we should have given the captaincy to Dickwella and give him a strong VC to curb his appeals lol..

didn't see a ball but pretty chuffed with the batting. looks like sri lanka gave a good push with the bat.

i never thought i'd be saying ferguson and sodhi are genuinely better odi bowlers than southee, and oof looks like henry is still struggling.

bennett for india please, and maybe a latham or a nicholls opening too

It's one innings. If he plays another few like it, he'll make the XI

Questions remain over Munro, the 5/6/7 make-up and the Henry/Southee pie-throwing conundrum. They need to at least try another quick v India; they'd be remiss not to. Why not Bennett?

I wouldn't mind:

Guptill
Nicholls
KW
Boss
Latham
Neesham
CdG
Santa
Ferguson
Boult
Bennett

Batting to 8 is a must for me, with 6 bowling options plus Kane.

If I could be convinced Nicholls would be a successful opener against international-class bowling, I'd adore that side.

Realistically though, I still see Nicholls' main strength in the middle order, with either Neesham, CDG or Anderson as the all-rounder.

I still have a soft-spot for Munro up top & think we can afford a slightly hit-miss goer like Munro (in the McCullum mould) when we have the solidarity of KW, Rosco, Latham & Nicholls to follow. Also allows Guptill to play his natural game without overly forcing his hand.

Although I do like your thinking of batting to no.8 with Santa, considering no. 1 England do exactly that.

That bowling attack is awesome, although I'd be a toss-up between Bennett (who I have a lot of time for) and Milne assuming he's fit. The latter offering more with the bat and in the field. I recall Bennett as a bit a slug around the park.

Would have them 3rd favourites for the world cup behind England and India if this eleven started the tournament. Don't think it would ever happen though due to a few injury prone players in there and favouritism of guys such as Munro and Southee.

If NZ can keep their core group of players fit and injury-free, and maybe introduce one or two other options (reserve keeper/opener) in the lead up to the WC, then gee I think they'll go far! IMO most of their match-winners haven't hit their peak yet and have a very high ceiling (specifically thinking of Kane, Neesham, Santner and Boult)

Likely to be a high-scoring WC, so guys who can accelerate quickly could prove the difference in tight situations
