A cheat is a cheat

The quote is from an article about Warner employing a PR consultant to improve his public image.

The irony that he is asking these questions, after discussing Warner's latest PR related actions to improve his image, doesn't seem to occur to the writer.

Doubt it was the first time. Likely to be the first time using sandpaper sure. Surely the bowlers knew as well.

Never bought that the bowlers weren't in on it.

Starc's complete ineffectiveness with the old ball since then may be a coincidence but I don't buy that either.

I think the latter is more to do with the fact that they don't dare to rough the ball up in the more conventional ways either

Funny you should mention that

According to one of the Saturday papers

" The team were told in the UAE the side was under scrutiny, and the umpires have told the players they cannot suck mints when shining the ball or throw it into the pitch from the outfield.

In Shield cricket there has been a crackdown on methods of obtaining swing. "

Ok but it’s got to be fair and keep an eye on all teams. Surely we can agree to that without going all no you? I mean we don’t want just Shami suddenly reversing it when there’s been a pretty green outfield do we?

I assume this applies to all countries then, or are we deliberately putting ourselves at a disadvantage? Given shield has been mentioned too, it appears to be the latter.

I'm assume the ICC told both teams. Would be horribly unfair (but hilarious) if Pakistan were allowed to suck mints on the field but Australia weren't.

Norwood's on Fire
England players immediately reported a change in the ball’s shape after it had cannoned into Khawaja’s helmet, and the umpires duly called for the box of used reserve Dukes.
Actually the umpires did it independently. It was the one time all series we didn’t ask for a ball change.

You can't blame the players for the umpires' decisions. Calling a team 'cheats' is pretty low when unsubstantiated.
A lot of fuss was made about the gold writing being visible on the replacement but take a look at the photo of the old ball hitting Usman's helmet. One side is decidedly shinier than the other and may very well have retained some of the gold lettering. The whole issue is based on Ponting's comparisons between the shiny side of the replacement and the dull sIde of the old ball.
