And I wouldn't describe his action as beautiful by any stretch of the imagination. Very interesting and good to watch though.
Wouldn't call it beautiful either but the variety of bowling actions is part of cricket's charm. Very effective though. Holding and Donald have the best actions I've seen.

Hastings does have a pretty ugly action, always looked somewhat lumbering and unathletic. But comparing him to Thisara Perera is just plain wrong.

Hey, that's a national captain you're talking about

Perera is also a superior batsman but I don't see you complaining about that :p

So here we are:

Aaron Finch (c), Jason Behrendorff, Alex Carey (wk), Peter Handscomb, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Peter Siddle, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa

First off Im happy to see Richardson there and also Khawaja. Personally keen to see P. Siddle too, although I dont think India is the ideal batting lineup for him.

Initially I was annoyed with the 14 man squad but if you include Warner Smith Starc Cummins Hazlewood it suddenly looks a good 19 man squad to chose a 15 man squad for the Cup.

There is also a backup keeper, spinner, left arm quick, right handed batting all rounder and left handed opener picked who are unlikely to feature together in our best XI:
Carey and Handscomb
Zampa and Lyon
Starc and Behrendorff
Stoinis and MMarsh
Warner and Khawaja

I guess Stoinis and Marsh is most likely.

I'd like to see Starc given a run considering he's our premier white ball bowler, and probably close to the best in the world. Siddle's selection is a bit odd but meh.

Interested to know what our best world cup XI plus squad would look like, what's everyone's thoughts?

Warner
Finch
Stoinis
Smith
Maxwell
M.Marsh
Carey +
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Stanlake

Hazelwood, J.Richardson, S.Marsh, Handscomb

I said similar earlier but I think thats very close to the squad Red Hill.

Lyon vs. Zampa and maybe SMarsh vs. Khawaja are the most difficult if you assume Warner fits back into the fold.

I sort of feel like Short's non selection is a sign that Davey is returning immediately.

I guess Stanlake is still debatable too. His wicket taking ability is big but he doesnt offer much else.

BTW, id bat Smith at 3 ahead of Stoinis for sure in that XI RH named earlier and I might even bat Carey ahead of MMarsh.

Looking at the averages for the last ODI series played, it appears they just dropped the 3 lowest averaging batsmen that weren't captain ;)

Considering Mmarsh was dropped for that series, and hasn't done anything to warrant a return, I guess he's there for potential
Actually forgot NCN, definitely in the frame if fit.

Mitch Marsh is a different prospect in short form, I see him as a huge weapon in ODIs (opposed to the liability he is in tests).

Been pretty unenthused with NCN as of late, his bowling looks a touch flat and down on pace recently. At his best I like him as a white ball bowler, only time will tell if this is temporary or permanent

This would be my WC squad as it stands:

1 Warner
2 Finch
3 Smith
4 Darsh
5 Maxwell
6 Stoinis
7 Wade
8 Cummins
9 Starc
10 Lyon
11 Haze

12 Handscomb
13 NCN
14 M Marsh
15 Not sure yet, I want a backup spinner but I don't love any of them. Agar or Zampa at the moment I guess

Honestly Wade should have been picked as keeper. He actually should never really have been dropped from the ODI team in the first place. Carey has done nothing to warrant a call up.

I like this. I'd play Zampa over Lyon and maybe M Marsh over Stoinis but it's pretty close to our best.

S.Marsh has actually been pretty impressive over the last couple of years in ODI

I actually like the Siddle selection. I think his future is in white ball cricket and his stillset seems to have changed to accomodate that. Worth giving him a shot. Was delivering a really consistent yorker length throughout the last Big Bash.

He's too old to have been coached out of it and into the batsmen feeding long hops that are the reason why we can neither bat nor bowl in T20Is.

Ashton Turner is still the one guy that we havent tried who I wish we did. For my money he is the perfect bat in the middle order alongside Stoinis and Maxwell.

Finch Warner Smith Stoinis Maxwell Turner Carey Cummins Starc is a batting lineup to 9 that i would like to see. Carey would move up the order in some circumstances, if we wanted a lefty at the crease.

With no Warner and Smith the 2 spots should be filled by 2 of Khawaja SMarsh Short Lynn Head.
