Question on ban announcements

So hb wasn't supposed to post in the Aus vs Ind thread I'm guessing?
Nah he can post where he likes. We just gave him some very specific instructions about what wasn't acceptable from him in report messages when he reported posts, and he ignored us repeatedly in a very obvious and undeniable way given what the instructions were.

Thanks, I didn't know how to ask so I sort of baited you into that answer lol. Seems there was a bit more churning behind the scenes than I thought.

Among other things we asked him to stop asking us questions in report messages, given we can't actually reply to them and that's not what that function is for.

Now sometimes there can be a grey area as to what constitutes a question, so he got the benefit of the doubt of couple of times, but when you've been asked not to send through questions you should really avoid sending through multiple reports with question marks in them to be any chance of getting that benefit.

When did HB go off a cliff? Never remember him being a dire poster back in the 2013-15 era of my posting/reading here

The Cricsim thread set up for discussing his "contributions" to the forum has been around for at least 8 years I think.

oh wow, at least I thought he was pretty harmless and would never run afoul of the moderators, memory can be faulty however - wouldn't mind a link to that thread tbh

In a private subbie lol.

The best part of it is that there are loads of posts by posters who were, at the time, CW moderators which outline how desperate they were to permaban him

Oh, I do this sometimes. Didn't know you found it irritating. Apologies I guess.

Context is everything I guess.

What I took from Cribb's post is that it's ok to use question marks/to ask questions if you phrase your reports in a certain way. I.e. as a means of highlighting possible rule-breaking.

E.g. "This is surely not acceptable?" or "This is surely against the rules?"

But it's not ok to use it to attempt to enter a dialogue etc.

E.g. "Why was I given an infraction?", "Can I ask whether you have considered to my previous report?", or "What have you discussed in the mod forum about Sledger?" etc.
