I swear Burgey was moaning about Indian bowlers bowling too short earlier in this series.

Regardless of how the batsmen look, bowling short isn't an effective wicket taking technique. You can leave the ball on length. I like that Agarwal and Pujara were willing to duck and cop some blows rather than risk getting out to an unnecessary pull or hook. Run rate doesn't matter. This is Test cricket. India batted two days for 443 and won handily in the previous test. 69 in a session is plenty.

The only risk to the batsmen atm is one of them gloving one behind the stumps, and that's a far more preferable risk to face than having this pace attack constantly attack your stumps and pads, or teasing away in the channel. Not only is it probably the least effective bowling strategy the Aussie quicks could employ, but it's also the most tiring.

Keep on bowling short boys.

the reason why Wagner is amazing is because he somehow makes this work

these Aussies quicks are no Wagner. They're far better off bowling full and trying to make these batsmen drive. Bowling short hasn't really worked for them all series - most of their wickets have come from batsmen being loose on the drive, or flicking in the air to leg gully lol.

Just goes to show how well Agarwal has played the drive today - he's put them off their main plan and made them resort to a less effective one. Granted he's looked awful, but he's survived till lunch. Quality batting so far.

And now that I've jinxed him sufficiently, watch him pop one up to short leg right after lunch.

fitness and reading his opponent.

very few bowlers have the fitness to bowl a literal 10 over spell of 90% bouncers. even if you're good at the short ball it wears you down, and he has an excellent sucker ball he'll throw up full as well.

he's also very good at reading who is scared and who has an ego (kohli last tour) who won't be able to handle 10 overs of ducking.

india have kohli, rahane, pant, nohit, rahul etc in the team who all score very quickly batting in their preffered rhythm. pujara's strike rite is not only fine, his ability to bat time is actively beneficial to the team.

He also seems to be that perfectly awkward in-between height and pace as to make batsmen want to play it all the time. It's a lot easier both mentally and physically to get under a Billy Stanlake ball than a Neil Wagner one.

Ugh, we went with only two pacers? Ffs hope it doesn't cost us.

Agarwal is a big plus from this tour. Has looked solid in every innings.
