Second Spitter
State Vice-Captain
Fawad Ahmed is averaging more than Marnus with the bat this season. He can bowl leg spin too apparently.
No. No they really, really should notIf he's still a little mental they should give a spot to Sangha.
He shouldn’t have been picked for nsw let alone Australia. Let him score enough runs in first grade to warrant nsw selection then if he scores consistently for three years he can play for Australia.Rubbish. They’re being mentioned bcos the incumbents and next in line are crap. Besides don’t get yourselves all twisted. You can pick your side of never gonna be’s and have one place for a youngster like Sangha.
This kind of thinking has led to the legacy of Shaun Marsh, his brother and a generation of journeymenI’m talking in the context of a squad selection. Either as an extra man or in place of any other blokes who are so bad they are peripheral candidates for the worst top six Australia has fielded for many a day. I don’t have the access to the shield or JLT cup so I only get to see players in the BBL after reading about them. He looks good to me. Real quick in his movements. I think it’s reasonable to start moving on rather than taking another spin on the wheel. And in a shoot out a better choice than Pucovski atm bcos I’d be concerned about how he’d handle the pressure.
From those I’ve seen (and only in a BBL context) he looks the best. Anyway I’m pretty isolated here and don’t have anything else to say except restate that I’m a fan and try and make time when things get busy in my place to watch him bat. There are plenty of batsmen in the shield who "look good". Getting fooled by batsmen who "looked good" is why we have a generation of blokes who excel at making pretty 30s but can't grind out a six hour innings.
Different for bowlers. Fast track them all you like so long as you can keep them fit.
Looking decent and being young shouldn’t mean an immediate path to international duties. Score some proper runs you ****sFrom those I’ve seen (and only in a BBL context) he looks the best. Exactly. Looking good with the bat means **** all at Test level. Bowling is different as the attributes required to succeed at lower levels are often quite different to Tests, but batsmen? Pretty 30's are not good enough at Shield level and they aren't good enough at Test level. Make them build innings before getting selected. There are plenty of batsmen in the shield who "look good". Pucovski looks like he might. Batted for a long time during his double. Still too early thoughExactly. Looking good with the bat means **** all at Test level. Trouble is I'm not sure there's six Warner/Smith-less batsmen who know how to build innings consistently....
That's kind of my point, both his centuries he batted for long periods. But it's not yet a consistent pattern. If he can roll off two more big tons in the period before the Ashes the case starts to get a bit irresistible, but I'd like to think I'd hold steady.Pucovski looks like he might. In fairness Smith learned how to build innings at Test level. He wasn't exactly beating the door down before his recall and for a while he got out a lot between 50 and 100.Exactly. He’s thrown in some half centuries as well hasn’t he. It would be good to hold off but if he destroys in the four shield games I’d take him on tour. Oh yeah if he does well for the rest of the season I'd have little hesitation in taking him for the A-team squad. Even Sangha. He’s thrown in some half centuries as well hasn’t he. He's definitely has appeared to have pissed off someone. There's probably also the view of him being a pure white-ball batsman.I thought the lack of opportunities given to Maxwell was down to Lehmann not rating him, or am I wrong? What's their problem with him exactly? He clearly doesnt have technical weaknesses as glaring as Handscomb or Mitchell Marsh and yet he hasnt been given any where near as many chances, He was the only middle order batsman apart from Smith who looked competent in India. Didn't look terrible in Bangaldesh ither iirc and he hasnt played since.
Fair point, though he did hit four tons in the season before he was originally called up. Plus a lot of the pitches in Shield cricket around that time were pretty disgraceful. In fairness Smith learned how to build innings at Test level. He wasn't exactly beating the door down before his recall and for a while he got out a lot between 50 and 100.
