Mitch Marsh bowled really well here tbf to him. And got through a big workload too. He’s just not a test match six. He might be a seven or an eight but there isn’t a keeper-batsman good enough to bat six ahead of him. And his bowling useful but certainly not good enough to play at eight as part of a four man attack.

yea someone needs to seriously question CA's player management and talent development structures. It's not like Aus just had a golden generation either - they've been one of the best sides in the world for most of their history. To go from that to this is embarrassing.

I get that T20 cricket and lower participation numbers play a role, but CA needs to re-evaluate their grassroots structures and their domestic cricket to see what's going wrong. And TBF maybe they have. But this is a problem that runs deep. Simply selecting new players into the starting XI or hiring a new coach won't solve anything.

A lot of former players have been banging this drum for a long time. Ed Cowan was talking about exactly this on the radio just now.

But anyone who’s suggesting picking Stoinis as a better option has rocks in their head. India would have made 600 and batted a session less if Stoinis had bowled 23 overs of his filth at them.

The only bloke who will bowl a serviceable number of overs economically and make decent runs is Maxwell. But they won’t pick him.

Your post suggests that this is some extended low-point for the success of the Australian cricket team which just isn't the case (yet). You're talking as if they've been no. 8 in the world for over a decade or something. They were technically ranked number 1 in Tests just 2 years ago, and they've won 4 of the last 5 World Cups. I wouldn't start feeling sorry for them

This "embarrassing" moment in time is more than anything the result of CA's criminal over-punishment of Australia's best players.

Cummins and even Rabada can end up as elite bowling all rounders (Hadlee, Davidson etc) if their bowling develops expectedly and the raw batting talent is fulfilled.

Cummins and Rabada are the two best quicks in world cricket today. How both stay free from injury and improve over the coming years.

tbh this is an extended low point for the success of the aus cricket team, it's just that said "low point" extends back to 2010. this is a bit unique (and temporary) in that there's no great batsman in the team to hold things together a bit, which really exposes what's underneath.
