if the Sixers could look at some of the association blokes instead of county players that'd be swell

It's hard to believe, looking at this side, that the 6ers were the "glamour" team with name players in BBL1 who turned up to that first season launch in a pink Hummer.

Where'd the Thunder dig up McAndrew from? Looks very ordinary. Though with Rainbird too their standards can't be too high.

I think they also pull in some spud imports too. Not too many kiwis which is a plus, but they used to have a heap of past it Windies blokes who basically came here to chop up, and it’s good they’re gone. But they’ve replaced them with some of these emerging nations blokes who bring novelty but will get worked out after a season.

I gather there must be a Saffer Comp running as well at this time? But still, if you had a choice you’d come here rather than there, where abject poverty abounds.

Dunno why they don’t get a few Indian and Pakistani blokes in. I know they’re horrible blokes and don’t like bounce, but they’d bring a crowd in. Happy there’s not many SL blokes here. They universally stink in Australia.

Denly is one that stands out to me. Looks like he'd be an ordinary grade player. Though when you're picking locals like McAndrew I guess there just aren't that many good Aussie players around?

Surely that Bertus guy would be a lot better than a spud like Denly

Stars had the biggest names. Warne was skipper and they had almost a full batting line-up of international representatives. I remember it was kind of a big deal at the time that they poached a few players like Bailey from their home state. Of course it didn't last long and they all left lol

tom curran made people taste it too. really, the sixers batting line-up isn't that bad. they've lost the game cause Jos did Jos things and Henriques, Hughes and Silk did nothing. It's just that I don't get why Hughes isn't opening in place of either of the two existing openers and it seems weird for Lloyd Pope to be your "extra bowler". You're starting off on the back foot. You could argue Philippe could be opening in place of Edwards too.

**** there's been some incredible lower-order partnerships this tournament, it's been quite bizarre

and I agree that Philippe should definitely be opening. Him at 6 is weird

Yeah Philippe and Hughes should open you’d think
If they're really committed to Denly you could also swap Hughes and Moz around

I think beyond dropping Edwards down it's all a bit shuffling deck chairs on the titanic though

Mcandrew is not bbl calibre
I think there's an unhealthy obsession with picking crappy Grade all-rounders (or bowlers) rather than just picking an extra quality batsman. Most sides seem to have 6-7 genuine bowling options at least, and can easily get rid of 1 or 2 for another bat, because the extra crappy all-rounder gives you no value at this level.

Definitely. Is there nobody waiting in the wings for the call up?

You write that as if extra quality batsman are options
I've actually said a few times that I'm guessing there mustn't be any decent Grade batsmen to pick from, because it's the only thing that explains this sort of selection. But I just have a hard time believing it because you've got guys like Bertus in NSW dominating Grade and Futures cricket not getting a look in.
