Perhaps it's a bit harsh on Wagner, especially coming from someone that's backed him since the dark Doug Bracewell days, but I really wouldn't mind seeing Ferguson get a go at the moment.
I would love to see Ferguson make his test debut and agree it would be extremely harsh on Wagner at the same time.

For a long time, especially this decade since we started getting a lot of flat pitches at home, we've been crying out for a bowler that can make a wicket happen when it's flat and the opposition batsmen are looking comfortable. I have to remind myself though that bowlers like that (e.g. 150km/h speedsters or the very top tier of spinners) are as rare as hens' teeth and that Wagner has been that man more than anyone for NZ. Truth is that patience and accuracy from the other bowlers and bouncer barrages from Wagner (though better than today's one) are our best bet. So, more patience needed here from NZ's bowlers and probably more patience needed from myself too.

Wonder if four seamers would be an option for the next test, though they have Henry ahead of Ferguson currently anyway.

Edit: Not to say I'd go four seamers when we have CDG as well - that would be excessive and it's useful to have a spinner.

IMO, Henry has to take the new ball if he plays. So I'd favour Ferguson in a four-seamer attack, but Henry if Boult or Southee picked up an injury.

According to the commentary there've been a few bat-pads off Ajaz go to short leg where we don't have a fielder. Not to say the same thing would've happened if there was one, but would give the batsmen something extra to think about.

Excellent 50 for Mathews.

Bit concerned about how this is going now. It makes me wish we'd had a few more overs at them last night. We had all the momentum, the bowlers' tails were up, and maybe we could have picked up another wicket or two before stumps.

Need to break through here soon. There's lots of time in the test match but it's supposed to be raining tomorrow. Sri Lanka will make a great escape if somehow they can lose no more than 3 more wickets today.

Excellent half day for SL so far. 7 wickets left, 3 hours to go.
SL should make it now, For NZ hoping Patel or someone can open up an end before the second new ball, then NZ still a chance.
