perhaps a 2d still frame is an even worse representation of a 3d moving scenario than a 2d perspective-flattened one
Yes, but in most of these instances, even in the still photo you can see some part of his fingers under the ball, people just get confused because the ball looks like it shaves the grass as well. Not so in this case.

Ishant has improved beyond all recognition. Umesh looking innocuous though.

what you seem to be thinking of is a geometric impossibly. the ball is not that small that it could protrude out from under the hand.
No I meant the ball is too big for his fingers to be under all of it. And he doesn't have many fingers under it

If that was not Kohli on 120+ shaking his head this would not even be a debate.... that has pretty much been considered a catch since I've been watching cricket.

Surely even if Finch is injured Handscomb can't play MCG.

With Marsh I can understand why you'd want to move on...but while the series is still alive you should still pick your best XI, and there's still worse players in the XI.

Still at effectively 4/132 I still like our position. Need these two to put on a decent partnership though.
Agree.

Also think there is a lot to work with for Marcus Harris. Strange way got the same feeling for Bancroft and Renshaw.

Think 250-270 will be tough to chase but there is the Kohli factor. Even Tendulkar didn't give Australia, South Africa and England the concerns he does in our home conditions with what is enough to set like he does.

Haha I even think it was the right decision in the end, but it wasn't conclusive like you guys are making it out to be.

Kohli's just one guy. 200 will be enough.

in fairness I am an extremist on this, I strongly believed that catches like those are absolutely out in almost all circumstances where you don't see the ball physically bounce off the ground. basically if the ball is still going down, it's out

It is not about about closeness.... there is no degree of catch. The fingers under the ball = he caught it. If you don't think he had his fingers under the ball, then I think you are looking at different images to me.

It looks like he might have a few fingers snuk under the very bottom of the ball, but that it's all happened so low to the ground that the edges of the ball are touching grass. He doesn't have enough fingers under there to cup it

This is going by the photo daemon posted

Handscomb proving that he should have spent at least part of the last year he was working on his game trying to get 2 feet further down the wicket at set up, and on the front foot to the full ball. A walking wicket to anything that moves slightly in the air or off the deck.
