He hit 149 like 3 matches ago and played a chancy but ultimately vital knock in the Adelaide win.

He's not undroppable but I do feel he should be allowed a bit more time.

India have bent their knees in front of moderate targets several times this year. Never have conditions been so bad to chase than what we will likely have here at Perth. Anything more than 150 and Australia will be dialed in to turn up at Melbourne 1-1.

We need a big first innings lead and ensure Australia get the second new ball.

*third new ball.

Yeah new ball tomorrow will be absolutely crucial (assuming a wicket doesn't fall before then). Great Test pitch.

India are very poor 4th innings chasers so Australian fans have no reason to be pessimistic yet.

the advantage still very much with the aussies right now...two quick wickets and the rest will most likely fold...given we would be batting last, india need a 50-60 run lead at least and a significantly improved bowling performance in the 2nd innings and then avoid a 4th innings collapse...easier said than done...

Who would be your openers in 3rd Test:-

Shaw-Rohit-

Rohit-There's a lot of talk about promoting him as opener. Sure, he lacks technique against moving ball but I guess he'll not do any worse than present openers. Moreover, he may smack a quickfire 40. That's low but better than nothing.

Shaw-Mayank:- There's enough time for next match. So just bring him and make him open along with Shaw. He has scored truck loads of runs. Guy deserves a run.

Shaw- Dhawan:- Just doesn't make any sense in going back to him but we never know.

Shaw- Parthiv:- This guy has been their since 2002 and I don't even remember how may times he has made comebacks. Never once he scored a match winning score IMO. I wonder whether we are really that lost on keepers that we had to pursue with him even after these many years. Instead Ishan Kishan could have been selected as back up keeper. He is young and can be groomed along with Rishab.

Rahul/Vijay:- Alright. Here is the thing. We still have one more innings and if suddenly out of the blue either Rahul or even Vijay(for him it will be a career saving innings) plays a brilliant innings then I guess they automatically secure their place for atleast next match. I just have this feeling that Rahul will somehow again manage some brisk 40-50 and will keep that false hope in team management and will be selected for next match.

However, he has been given such a long rope. They actually did damage than helping him by continuously selecting him and piling up pressure on him. At his point of time, he is totally out of place. Best thing for him should be either go back to Ranji matches or sign up for County during start of the season to sort out the technical and mental mess.

Rohit is the thinking opener India needs. Shaw is too much of a Sehwag, without nuance.

Rohit has the value of many men.
