Please don't make me explain yet again that discipline is talent and not just the ability to hit the ball. You can't be a talented Test match player if you lack the mental ability to put together big scores - not possible.

Agree, it can be uselful to have extra shots. But it’s not the main part of the batting

I think you're getting Shaun Marsh seriously wrong. He's a different kind of player to Maxwell. He's not purely a good shotmaker, he does know how to build an innings. It's just starting that's his issue, I don't think his ability to play soft shots when set is any better or worse than most Test players.

it's a lot easier to learn how to construct a big innings than it is to get better hand eye coordination to be fair

Even in white ball cricket, he's always looked better to me when he's not trying to force it too much. He's a good enough natural strokeplayer to play each ball on its merits.

Yeah that's probably true, Marsh isn't actually a terrible Test player/has had an ok career. He is more meme than anything.
