Man India are going to regret wasting the new ball in the first hour. They've been tight since then it seems, and the pitch has gotten friendlier to bowl on. A good first hour and Aus might have been, like, 160/5 now.

Thankfully Australia played a bunch of daft shots to bring things back to parity. Throwing away their own advantage of having a strong start on a somewhat unpredictable surface.

It'll be interesting to see how the pitch plays as the game progresses. You've got people thinking it will flatten out, and others thinking it'll just get worse from here. Australia's bowling will be impossible to face if it keeps this kind of pace and inconsistency, so I hope it does flatten out. Especially given our useless tail.

Lol at Vihari bowling unplayable deliveries. He's so tame. Jadeja would have been awesome here - we're now back into a holding mode waiting for the second new ball when we could be attacking with a spinner.

Need a wicket from somewhere, let's hope Shami reverses one of these two out. Get Aus 6 down by close of play, keep them under 300 tomorrow, and hope Kohli and Che put can ton up on an easier pitch. That has to be the plan.

But realistically SMarsh will ton up here before the tailenders pile on another 150. Aus 500/8 dec, India blown on for 26, Cummins taking 8/3
They’ve bowled too short.

Man, this team has zero game to let rookies walk all over them time after time. Newbies aren't meant to be all composed and match-changing.

More short stuff. Why do they bowl it? It's so dumb. Better to pitch it up and make them play. There's still movement and life in this pitch.

I think this will end like the England series where we'll lose handily but the scoreline won't reflect how close it actually way, and a lot of losses will be due to self-inflicted wounds like selection mistakes or dropped catches in key moments.

As exhibited by today.
India are up in the series to start, and by now you might be releasing this Australian batting is really, truly rubbish.

These two were the best Australian batsmen in the first test, probably going to be a big partnership. Hopefully head chips Vihari to mid wicket soon.

they're trying to bowl dry I reckon. They're probably afraid of one of the Aussie bats playing a good attacking innings to take the game away from them, and would rather play their patience than their technique.

I think Khawaja is a shot duck atm. Has no intent to rotate strike at all and is basically a walking wicket. Which is a worry because he’s really our only verified test class batsman and was the bloke we had placed a lot of store in ahead of this series.

It’s a stupid plan. They’ll get more reward bowling fuller with mid on and mid off set deeper and straighter. They’re basically gifting Australia a 300 run first dig here on a deck with plenty in it. It’s stupid. Almost the opposite of their plans in Adelaide, which were bang on.

How does Handscombe still average above 40. Feel he's failed like every innings after his initial breakout summer

Vihari's overs are just filler dross. Better than Vijay, but not by much.

It's one thing we've been missing for a few years now - a top 6 batsman whose a decent part-time option. Sehwag, Tendulkar and Ganguly added so much to the team in that regards.
