You could say the same for channel nines thiugh. It was massively dumbed down for the international season cf domestic matches where the audience was more the genuine cricket lover.

tbf Paine is probably a bit of an outlier. Has been pretty far removed from international cricket for a while, didnt score a century for ten years(so i'm sure his interest may have waned a bit), and was even considering retirment at a young age.

Compared to Steve Smith i guess he is probably in touch with the common man. Smith probably gets his wife to give him throwdowns in the yard each night

Seeing Lyon frustrated was the best part of the day. KL Rahul provided the best shots of the day and it's a pity he went when he did. Still, hope to see some runs off Rohit's bat tomorrow and some from Pant and Ashwin. Hope Cummins doesn't get up with the green eyes.

Such a great battle between Kohli and Cummins this afternoon and Pujara and Lyon. Both were epic duels. In all it was a really good day of test match cricket. It's a real shame Australia's batting is not up to the same quality.

Lyon and Cummins could both have claimed a bag full on another day. Batsmen have batted far worse for bigger scorers than Kohli or Pujara made. It was high quality stuff all round.

That wicket of Kohli is huge. India would have really needed him tomorrow to press on the advantage. We need about another 140+ runs in the next 2-2.5 sessions, so that we have enough to bowl at in the 4th with enough time to bowl the Aussies out as well.

Not only will this be tough without Kohli, I don't have confidence in this batting order to even survive another two sessions. Aussies in with a great chance to wrap the innings up cheaply tomorrow and set themselves up for an easy 4th innings chase. And if India do somehow bat 2 sessions, they probably won't have enough on the board to declare by then, which means we're likely to have just a day to take 10 wickets.

There is rain about too. All four outcomes very possible at this moment. Fantastic test.

India are clear favourites at this stage. I'd be surprised if Australia can chase anything higher than 200.

Let's remember that Ashwin has the same rough that Lyon has except it's going to be on days 4 and 5 rather than 3 and 4.

The pitch hasn't been breaking up really.

Yea look I'm just really cynical and pessimistic of the Indian side in general. They've thrown away so many good positions in overseas Tests before it's hard for me to say they're ahead here, even tho they clearly are if you're a neutral.

All I can see if every potential path for an Indian loss and there still are plenty. They still need to put in 2 more days of good cricket if they want to avoid defeat.

I don't see any chase much above 140 odd being easy and 200-odd being doable with this Aus batting, especially as Ashwin will be even more threatening to our left-hander heavy lineup on a worn pitch (whereas India only have one lefty in the top seven making Lyon's job much harder). India should feel confident with where they are right now and try not to panic.

That rough won't come into play as much for Ashwin because he'll be bowling to a lot of left handers. To the right handers, his natural line is a lot straighter than where the rough is and he isn't good enough to adjust and bowl that wider line.

He'll still threaten the lefties but not because of the rough.
