Is it just me or does Harris have a really wide backlift?

It was pretty disappointing to see the top order being so lazy after all the humdrum of this being their best chance of a win in Aus etc. I guess they didn't really take that too seriously based on some of the shots on display.

Except other than Rohit it wasn't laziness. It was genuinely really tight, clever bowling that induced the mistakes. I think you're underselling the bowlers if you think that's the case.

This pace suits Australia nicely. They're not being put under enough #Pressure by the Indian bowlers. Too many deliveries they can safely leave or work away for free runs.

Ashwin has started decently. Shami could be a bit straighter. He's bowling around the wicket to a pair of lefties and yet they're finding it easy to leave him.

The ball already looks pretty soft and beaten up.

That happens at Test level. You still expect better from top order batsmen than playing the same idiotic shot over and over again.

I fully agree, the bowling was exceptionally tight and they were smart enough to throw out the carrot ball after those tight spells. No doubt about that. The planning and execution and captaincy by Paine was on point.

But I still think it's lazy batting to fall for those traps, particularly Rahane and Kohli.

From the post day interviews, Kohli seemed to have suggested they wanted to get on top early and not worry too much about the conditions and "make a statement"..which seems to have contributed to their stroke making.

Also Pant was hilarious when he came out. I get that it is how he bats etc, but 90/4 or 5 to bat like that was insanity IMO. He's lucky he did not get out earlier..

Good stuff from Ashwin. He's bowled well today, has earned that. A bit loose from Harris.

hasn't bowled a lot of variations at all today. Been quite good. Doing what we wish he did more off and just bowl boring good offspin at a good length with slight variations.

Let's get Marsh out early or he's going to smash us for a century.

And this is the problem with the Australian batting lineup. It's just so flakey right now. There is no one who I feel confident well make any runs. Handscomb and Head are up next and then we're out of batsmen and into the tail.

The fast bowlers have been far too wide. If you're going round the wicket there's no excuse for not making them play.

I don't think some here realise how little solidity actually is in this batting lineup.
