Mzansi Super League

Smuts has turned full circle from a batsmen who bowls a bit to outperforming Harmer in franchise cricket with the ball but doing f-all with the bat...

Bizarre the names left out at least half of whom have either massive potential or are very good in this form... Kind of understandable with all the overseas and overseas South African returnees, but then somehow Marco Marais and Thomson (both who admittedly kill @ provinicial level, but has never converted his limited franchise opportunities) have contracts. Hamza, Ackermann, Muthusamy, Gous, vd Bergh, Moonsamy (who although has lacked consistency has proven to go big...) seem like most bizarre.
Have to question some of the picks from the coaching staff. Think some of them have gone too much for experience instead of looking at current ability...
Think the issues will be ironed out for next years event.
1) internationals will be here for full time
2) over-the-hill players pushed on
3) some of the players selected more on other format performances also possibly found out.

The obvious 2 fast bowlers who will join the event next year for me is Dupavillon & Burger. Maybe some Corbin Bosch.

Batting less straight forward. Hamza (SR 100.31) & Muthusamy (108.04) will have to keep growing their batting games. No reason they can't evolve like Amla. Other guys in this category are Bedingham (102.52) , Moore (111.22) & maybe some of the Titans boys.

On SRs and limited franchise opportunities you probably say Gous (142.29) , Lubbe (133.04) , M.Ackerman (135.46) & C.Ackermann (118.19) should be there now.

Breetzke, van Tonder & Makwetu will find their way into this tournament in time. Breetzke has all the shots. Van Tonder reminds me of Faf in that he has enough shots to find a way to score fast & Makwetu just looked so impressive as a middle order finisher with his sweeps, laps, ramps mixed in with power hitting.

As ever there will be players who will have to.lose their spots. Think guys like Marais, Le Roux, Kleinveldt, von Berg, Hawken, Piedt, Harmer, Thompson, Kruger & even some of our test boys Elgar, Bavuma, Philander + plenty others could be in trouble of losing their spot in the draft.

Whooooah Justin Kreusch commentating for PE games. Proper domestic stalwart you forget about once they retire. Like his views so far though.

Quality ball that from Dala. No ways a 39 year-old van Wyk is keeping that from hitting the stumps. Especially as it has been the perfect ball to bowl to van Wyk for 20 years.

Durban heat must have the longest 20 20 batting tail in cricket history starting from number 6 with morkel coming in lol

If Ngidi has a 3 month lay-off, that may definitely open the door a tad for Paterson / Ngidi / Nortje / E Bosch / Dala and co...

Not sure how they can claim the Mzansi league is expanding the talent pool, since it's the same number of XI's and fewer spots for local cricketers...

I don't think that is the idea for this tournament. It is just trying to get the best T20 product and if that includes new talent then great.

I think we are already identifying new talent who seem to be dealing with the higher scrutiny (pressure) & playing with & against the best in SA with some internationals. Quotas are at a minimum.

I think that is where it has benefited the Indians. They come into international cricket not being overawed so it's just about being in the moment and expressing the talent more which is the perfect scenario.

Malan dispatched Rabada for 6s last night and Rickelton hit Steyn for 6. It is small things but it gives young players confidence that they have faced some of the best which they may not get in domestic anymore. That is how I am looking at it.

Nortje has really really impressed me. Bowling some serious heat with good control.
Quite remarkable how his pace seems to be getting through some of the best batsmen in SA like AB, Amla, Hendricks , Bavuma.

Quality heat high in 140s but we have had a few do that but his seems to rush the batsmen more and I am not sure if it his action which makes him quite a weapon in limited overs cricket as he is more difficult line-up. But obviously FC 5-fors says he is an all format bowler.

Also got to give Duanne Olivier and Beuran Hendricks some credit. They are bowling well at the minute. Not hard to know what our SA A 4-day seam bowling attack is.

It also gives opportunity for the youngsters to play with experienced players, which is also great; Nortje/Steyn can only be good. I like that the squads have created a nice mix of players from around the country, that would not normally play together, with a few internationals. May also give some youngsters an opportunity to get some other T20 deals and make a little bit of money taking pressure off the CSA to make sure the semi-professional and FC level is funded enough to keep these players in the country.

It has also had a few moments of fun!

With Ngidi's injury difficult to see how he could not be drawn into the squad on/off during the home summer (even just to spend time). Still needs to play his FC games, not just sit on the bench.

Definitely is a fine balance. Hopefully if he is in the squad they will release him for Warriors.

Really good to see the older Bosch back from injury to replace Ngidi. Already rushed Smuts to get him out on the pull & pinned Duckett on the helmet.
