International Coach
Smuts has turned full circle from a batsmen who bowls a bit to outperforming Harmer in franchise cricket with the ball but doing f-all with the bat...
Bizarre the names left out at least half of whom have either massive potential or are very good in this form... Kind of understandable with all the overseas and overseas South African returnees, but then somehow Marco Marais and Thomson (both who admittedly kill @ provinicial level, but has never converted his limited franchise opportunities) have contracts. Hamza, Ackermann, Muthusamy, Gous, vd Bergh, Moonsamy (who although has lacked consistency has proven to go big...) seem like most bizarre.
Think the issues will be ironed out for next years event.Have to question some of the picks from the coaching staff. Think some of them have gone too much for experience instead of looking at current ability...
1) internationals will be here for full time
2) over-the-hill players pushed on
3) some of the players selected more on other format performances also possibly found out.
The obvious 2 fast bowlers who will join the event next year for me is Dupavillon & Burger. Maybe some Corbin Bosch.
Batting less straight forward. Hamza (SR 100.31) & Muthusamy (108.04) will have to keep growing their batting games. No reason they can't evolve like Amla. Other guys in this category are Bedingham (102.52) , Moore (111.22) & maybe some of the Titans boys.
On SRs and limited franchise opportunities you probably say Gous (142.29) , Lubbe (133.04) , M.Ackerman (135.46) & C.Ackermann (118.19) should be there now.
Breetzke, van Tonder & Makwetu will find their way into this tournament in time. Breetzke has all the shots. Van Tonder reminds me of Faf in that he has enough shots to find a way to score fast & Makwetu just looked so impressive as a middle order finisher with his sweeps, laps, ramps mixed in with power hitting.
As ever there will be players who will have to.lose their spots. Think guys like Marais, Le Roux, Kleinveldt, von Berg, Hawken, Piedt, Harmer, Thompson, Kruger & even some of our test boys Elgar, Bavuma, Philander + plenty others could be in trouble of losing their spot in the draft.
