There's an article on the CA website saying Rohit Sharma is vice captain. I presume that's only for LO stuff, because as an Australian supporter I would dearly love it to be in tests too.

Tbh he couldn't be worse than Rahane is currently in tests. Though, of course, there are people ahead of him in the pecking order.

You can see why he'd still be considered, sort of in the hope he will come good and transfer that LO form to tests because he's so prodigious. But can also see why they'd move on from him and look at others given the number of chances he's had.

TBF he'd probably walk into our side now....which admittedly says nothing.

It's not even just him being epic at ODI level. He's also dominated Indian domestics and he has scored runs at Tests (though admittedly all of them against weak attacks at home)

Still probably wouldn't pick him for India but I think he's fine as the reserve bat.

I could see Rohit making some classic downhill skiing test 100s in this summer's scenario tbh.

Let him bully Lyon instead of making Rahane dance around like James Caan getting torn up by Italian lead.

I know, it's been quite the drop off from where he was hasn't it. Sadly, barring some freak occurrence, Australia is no place for an Indian batsman to play himself back into form.

I really rate Rahane. I was there when him & Virat batted all day at MCG against Australia in 2014, was an absolute treat to watch.

Nah, massively over rated. Had a bit of a purple patch then reverted to mean. Called it at the time.

He is not over rated. No body rates him all that highly in the first place. Has played some good knocks overseas but thats about it. Better than any available Aussie batsman though.

I wonder sometimes if it's just a self belief thing with Rahane. Such a soft spoken, agreeable guy in a team full of aggressive alpha males. He doesn't have the best fundamental batting technique, seems to rely a lot on confidence to put things together. He was overlooked for India for so long, all while dominating domestically, and then being in and out of the ODI side and constantly having his spot questioned in Tests. I wonder if that self belief just isn't there like it used to be.

FMD four years ago he was being yapped up on here as being as good as Kohli, particularly away from home. How long has he been in the doldrums for? It seems to have been a fair while.

On another note, what alpha males? I mean, come on.

I tried to think of an argument against this but I can't

India probably have guys not even making the squad who are better than any available Aussie batsman

Yeah you would have to imagine the Indian dressing room is a bit of a pressure cooker what with so many guys looking to break their way into the team. Basically his friends and teammates are also his rivals.

Khawaja > Rahane.

Kohli has the shoulders of a brown snake. Even if we allow Kohli, who are all the others? Pujara? Dhawan (lol)? Ashwin? Jadeja? Please.
