Australian test selection 2018/19

Okay so there's one more round of Shield and some T20s before the first test and here's the fc stats for this season so far

Cricket Records | Records | Sheffield Shield, 2018/19 | | Most runs | ESPNcricinfo

Cricket Records | Records | Sheffield Shield, 2018/19 | | Most wickets | ESPNcricinfo

Barring injuries, 7-11 are a lock so it all comes down to the top 6

Finch & Khawaja (if fit) are certainties

SMarsh shouldn't be as 3 of his last 4 series have been horrendous (Cricket Records | Records | Sheffield Shield, 2018/19 | | Most wickets | ESPNcricinfo) but whatever

So 3 places up for grabs

I suppose the contenders are Burns, Marnus, Renshaw, MMarsh, Head, Harris, Maxi, Doolan, Stoinis, Handscomb

Marnus, Renshaw, & Handscomb are all short of runs while Maxi and Stoinis haven't played fc in months

Barring a big performance from somebody in the remaining matches, I can see us going in with something like

Finch
Khawaja
SMarsh (yuk)
MMarsh (infinite yuk)
Head (yuk)
Stoinis (I actually rate him but he's basically done nothing so another yuk)

Hopefully, I'm wrong and they include someone like Burns or Renshaw

Yeah I think you're close to the mark on the final lineup but that batting order could use a reshuffle.

I think with their runs recently Shaun and Mitch Marsh will be included in the test side. I really feel that only Labaschagne will face the axe.

Forgot about Wade who should also come into consideration

Personally wouldn't pick either of the Marshes as scoring a few runs at home won't prove much and especially when you consider their records overseas

What's more, Shaun is 35 while Mitch is basically a part-time bowler atm

Can almost guarantee their selection unfortunately

I can't imagine Stoinis and MMarsh both playing, even though MMarsh will be effectively playing as a batsman

IMO Wade & Harris should be the 2 big inclusions. Won't happen though, JL hates Harris supposedly.

I really wish Langer hadn't been made coach. He's really too public with his opinions on players. The favouritism is ridiculous.

I really, really think it's vital that Finch is nowhere near the new rock in home conditions. But it seems he isn't even being considered elsewhere in the order. D00lers D00lan has to be in with a shout to open based on early season form. It would be great if they'd use him as opener nad dropped Finch down to five, where I reckon he could do some serious, serious damage once the ball is older. Something like:

Doolan
Renshaw/ Whoever
Khawaja
Darsh
Finch
Wade

as a top six is incredibly dire but I don't think it's any worse than

Finch
Khawaja
Darsh
Head
Whoever
MMarsh.

In fact, I think it's better. But I think it's a given noted and revered test vice captain MMarsh will play.

To be honest I would definitely select Shaun Marsh in the team after his Shield ton. Probably would have anyway, as much for a bit of experience as anything else.

His brother on the other hand, nah

The normal awards that everyone else has
I really cant remember a time when our top 6 has been so shaky and uncertain going into a series. I'd just reward Shield form for the spots that are contentious, because what else is there?

Doolan
Hughes/Harris
Khawaja
S.Marsh
Finch
Wade/Henriques
Paine +
Starc
Cummins
Hazelwood
Lyon

Can see a situation where Wade comes in and makes runs and the next thing is there's pressure on the captain to retain his spot.

MMarsh can go, I cant handle it any more.

Nah I think everyone is in agreement that Wade's keeping will never be test match quality.

The selection of Henriques and Hughes would see shares in Bert Inc. go through the roof.

Remember when Dan Hughes was almost selected last summer during that one week? Such quaint times.

Hughes is a storied name in Australian cricket. I would be careful writing him off given that sort of #lineage.
