I’ve not seen Bumrah bowl but would imagine he’d be liking the look of M Marsh coming to the crease.
I actually reckon Doolan got screwed over pretty hard when he was dropped. Wasn’t given much of a run. Can’t say I’ve seen enough of his recent batting to see if he’s inporoved or just having a good patch right now, but he’d definitely belong in the argument wouldn’t he?Gonna be interesting to see who's picked. Hard to justify Renshaw at this point alas, ditto Maxwell. Handscomb probably needs another score. Burns probably comes down to how he does in this innings.
As much as it's a dodgy selection given his lack of Shield form before this season Doolan might well get in because he's one of the few that actually scored runs when opportunities were there. And there are basically no other batsmen who are scoring consistent runs right now and have good records from the last couple of seasons.
And I think the Marshes still have the inside running for two of the middle order slots given they at least scored runs at Shield level when asked. Head is probably 50/50 (scored runs here but failed in the ODI's) whereas I doubt Labuschagne has done enough.
Agree he probably was a bit unlucky to get dropped, but IIRC his form wasn't great when he first got picked and his form since getting dropped up until this season has not been flash. Makes me think it's a purple patch rather than him genuinely turning the corner.I actually reckon Doolan got screwed over pretty hard when he was dropped. Wasn’t given much of a run. I like it. Can we rename the side the "We've had a cerebral event XI"?So anyway I've been thinking. Why don't we go the full England and pick an all rounder xi? It'd mean dropping Haze but don't fret. I have a surprise for you. So in batting order how about Paine Finch Khawaja Marsh S Marsh M Stoinis Handscomb Pattinson Starc Cummins Lyon. Its not as **** as the material we have to pick a normal specialist xi is it? I mean look at the last 3. They're probably as good batsmen as England's last 3 atm. Maybe a little better. The side even has 2 keepers if you allow for Handscomb playing the Buttler role. Yes he has flaws but he's not far off selection anyway because there isn't much better. Paine to open to give the side its quota of funky. And in comes Pattinson. His fc batting ave isn't that far off Curran's. And you could probably get 12 overs in 4 spells out of him. Which means you'd probably need about 18 make up overs from Stoinis, M Marsh and Aaron. So watcha reckon? Genius or do I get shot for being rabid.
The thing is dropping three players at a time isn't exactly fair on the players and it doesn't breed stability or security in the team, leading to more selfish play and a less coherent team. The team I posted only changes one player (Labaschagne out, Burns/ Renshaw in) but puts the existing players in better spots.I only feel guilty about dropping Haze but I think it’s as good a team as yours and I’d have no problem dropping or not picking guys like Renshaw and Head who aren’t entitled to think they should be given a spot
Might even post it in the ATG threadI like it. Can we rename the side the "We've had a cerebral event XI"?
He had a recurrence of the knee injury that he had operated on after South Africa, is aiming to be fit again for the second bit of the Shield season after the BBLAlso, is Sayers injured or was he dropped?
Really, youd pick Siddle and Holland?Honestly the only changes I really want to see are too drop Labaschagne, bring in Burns or Renshaw, drop Finch to 4 and S Marsh to 5 and M Marsh to 6. Khawaja and head can slot nicely back to opener and 3.
